Kerry Overtakes Bush In Wisconsin

Oct. 28, 2004 – John Kerry holds the lead in the state of Wisconsin, according to a poll by Zogby International. 48 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democratic nominee in the 2004 United States presidential election, while 46 per cent would support Republican incumbent George W. Bush.

Less than two per cent of respondents would vote for another candidate, while four per cent remain undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Democrat Al Gore won the state’s 11 electoral votes in the 2000 election, defeating Bush by just over 5,000 ballots. The last Republican to carry Wisconsin was Ronald Reagan in 1984.

5. One cheesehead to another
With all the 'polls' showing such a close race in Wisconsin, I began to doubt my own senses, and decided to conduct a small poll myself.

I asked about 15 people I know the following question:

"Who is a more convincing liar? Tommy Thompson or George W Bush?"

Everyone I asked said that Thompson was a MUCH better liar -- no comparison, really. Thompson hardly EVER got caught in his lies. Hell, he even fooled me sometimes. In addition, his "good ol' boy" act was almost the truth.

OTOH, most thought Bush seemed completely non-credible and set off their BS meters the moment he opened his mouth. Descriptions of Bush like 'Used Car Salesman', 'Informercial spokesperson' and 'pushy insurance salesman' were most common.

My point is that even though we did have a Republican governor for so many years, you can't expect that support to carry over to Bush. Most of the same years people were voting for Thompson, they were also voting for Democrat presidents and Senators. I think credibility is what carries Wisconsin in the presidential race -- not party affiliation.

7. How Does Feingold & Kohl Win?
Greetings from south of the border. I keep asking how these polls show Bunnypants so strong when Feingold is doing so well and Doyle is still very popular.

I can't see how the turnout in Dane & Milwaukee Counties won't be heavily Democrat and Kerry should take the state by 5 points or more.

4. from one poll
that's in the margin of error. Zogby's state polling record is spotty and rolling trackers are highly unreliable.
