Wow. Didn't take long to get banned on Freerepublic...
I feel a little guilty about it but late last night I was reading some of the silliness on the Free Republic site and decided to join up and make a few posts. I know...not a nice thing to do. I honestly do feel guilty.

Anyway, I just commented on a couple of open topics with what I thought were reasonable posts - I wasn't flame baiting. Despite that, I am already banned. It's amazing that ANY semblance of balance or impartiality gets one banned from sites like that. I hope that the same doesn't happen here. I think D's stand up for diverse opinions, right?

1. Diverse enough, but within the constraints of progressive thought
I for one don't get uptight about FreeRepulsive banning people who are contrarian to their point of view... FreeRepulsive is set up for them, for their slack-jawed mouth-breathing hate-filled souls. Just like DU is set up for us. We aren't here to debate Left-Right issues... we are all on the left here.

4. Hmmmm...
I think I agree with you but "left" vs. "right" isn't like black and white. There are many people who have "left" positions on some issues and centrist or even "rigth" positions on others. I'm very left on social issues. I'm more "conservative" on fiscal issues. I think there are a lot of Democrats who feel the same. I have never voted for a R and I never will but but that doesn't mean that I don't have positions that occasionally disagree with some Democrats.

18. It was silly
They were railing about people stealing GW signs. I said, essentially, stealing GW signs sucks but, to be fair, both sides do it and both sides should stop. I also purposely put in a stoopid misspelling just so I'd fit in. :)

Again, I'm not saying this is a good practice.

19. You missed . . .
"No opposable thumb . . ." in your litany of FReeper traits.

But seriously -- anything but firebreathing wingnut fruitcakery gets you branded a disruptor at FR. And the Webmasters (I almost typed "sysops," thus revealing my age) are thorough -- they banned my entire domain!

I have to say -- having lurked in DU long before I started posting -- I don't see that much obvious FReeping here. Maybe the moderators never sleep and zap 'em before I see 'em.

I don't see a preponderance of drooling and spittle-filled posts here, which certainly reinforces my sense of being one of the good guys.

Which is why I hang out here, after all.

21. I had a similar experience, banned at freeconservatives.com
This was several months ago, when I was just getting in to reading and posting at political sites. I made a few reasonable comments, I thought, and I could not believe the gross insults and foul language that those folks used against me! Next thing I knew, I was banished!

No doubt my name at that site, "exrepublican", had something to do with this. However I am happy to report that I have been well received here at DU, even though I have acknowledged my former republican roots. I'm an older guy, and first voted for Eisenhower in 1956. The last republican president I voted for was Ford in 1976.

I am a fiscal conservative, and I agreed with Bush, Sr. assessment of Reagan's trickle-down plan as "voodoo economics". When Bush capitulated and accepted the Vice Presidential spot, I refused to vote for Reagan. I was really happy with Clinton as president; a moderate democrat, brilliant and charismatic. I voted for Gore in 2000 here in Florida. When the republicans stole the election, I joined the ACLU. I will never vote for a republican again!

It was not easy for me to make this transition, as my great grandfather was a founding member of the republican party, an early supporter of Lincoln. Also I am a distant cousin of Herbert Hoover. Anyways, this personal background is by way of saying, that here at DU I am accepted. We are mostly reasonable people here.:-)

34. Many fiscal conservatives will vote for Kerry IMO.
Some are too tied to the republican party to admit it, but in the privacy of the voting booth, they will vote for Kerry. A lot of folks see what a disaster Bush has been these last four years. I will not be surprised to see a Kerry landslide, even though the polls do not show it.

37. thanks, I appreciate that as I saw a few fiscal conservative
groups' leaders (anonymously) saying Bush was spending like a drunken sailor and they basically seemed to be beside themselves. To say I have issues with Bush on this topic would be a real understatement. I am particularly disgusted with the tax cuts while running these deficits and the war. Also his promise of 320,000+ jobs a month resulting from the tax cuts and we haven't anywhere approached the job numbers. His economic program or whatever he calls it is a total disaster; he s running this country into ruin IMHO.

42. I was banned from FR for of all things, discussing Eisenhower's
warning regarding what is now occurring in our country, the intertwining of the military machine and the corporations and our leaders for the sake of waging war for the sake of war and profit. They couldn't stand it that I reminded them of the importance of having someone with actual military experience as the commander in chief by referencing Eisenhower. They banned me then went on to ridicule me for several posts.

Some times I go over there to see what's up, to see what is driving them.

43. "trickle-down plan as "voodoo economics""
one more thing...it was in fact voodoo economics and I recall even David Stockman refuting it a few years back. So what happens? Bush2 drags it out again. What does he care if it was already disproven under Reagan? All Bush2 cares about is getting lots of money in the pockets of his rich buddies so they can give lots of bucks back to him for the campaigns.

Glad you switched.

23. Proud of my Freeper status
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 02:24 PM by mellowinman
Joined up within the past three weeks, let's say. Here are some rules for being a freeper:

1. Pretend to agree with stupid shit they say: "Damn straight! You got it! Good one!"

2. Always spell "loser" as "looser." If you fail that one, they'll spot you for sure.

3. Never mention the media without calling them "the liberal media."

4. Complain of frequently involuntarily urinating in your pants when drinking beer/bad flatulence, or women "getting all stuck-up" on you.

5. Have a sentence in your sig line that appears to either diss Kerry or support Bush but in truth MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

6. Don't be an extremist. If you're a new poster, and advocate killing people, or civil unrest, you will be banned. Duh.

7. Don't forget to end sentences in such a way as to destroy their syntax. Always feed the.

8. Latch onto one or two freepers, and follow them around, posting how glad you are they're "on your side." They will vouch for you when the rest of the pack turns, unless you go too far.

9. Do not link to the NYTimes, even with a "barf alert."

10. From time to time, point out that Laura is beautiful, but Hillary has fat thighs.

Remember, have fun, and when the Election results come in showing a Kerry landslide, TAUNT THESE BASTARDS TO THE POINT WHERE THEY GO INSANE! (well, the REST of the way insane, anyway...)

to comment on all the religion and government stuff. I make sure I keep my posts brief, never get in a flame war, and if I feel goaded too much and want to lash out, I just say, "I'm a simple man, with simple beliefs and you are sounding like a huckster to me, but all college educated people tend to sound that way to me."

38. Surving DU early on... you just gotta keep the posts pretty tame.
The newbies, are sadly, viewed with suspicion here, too. (Considering how many DUers probably troll on FR, I'm sure it's tit for tat).

At DU: Just watch, read, and post on other threads for a while. Don't start threads with negative info about Kerry, that's a big problem Newbies have, even if you ARE sincere, it's no way to make friends. You wouldn't do that on a new job, or in a new club, same for online communities. If you're sincere HERE, then it'll be okay.
