Do Americans like to see their President cry?
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:39 PM by newsguyatl
I'm just wondering. Not sure how I feel about this, but Bushco's new ad clearly shows Bush choking up during the RNC Convention.

Is this appealing to Americans as a whole? Or would they rather see someone more in control of his emotions?

Like I said, I'm rather split on it.

How do you guys feel?

Seems to me, this is a risk.

Remember the Muskee moment?

compare it to a similar one for kerry -- http://www.democrats.org/strength/index.html

which man would YOU rather have in control of your security?

i know MY answer to that.

1. I'd say not
A little more cold calculation in the most powerful leader of the world please. At least when dealing with world or domestic issues. If he was interacting with someone on a personal level, thats a little different.

2. Everyone will see it for the opportunism that it is...
Taking political advantage of a horrific situation. I think it will hurt him more than help him.

Now, if I break up with a guy, and he cries, that's fine. But Bush tearing up---well, that's just gross.

3. During one of his "vacations" in Crawford, he learned to cry on cue

Of course, it looks totally phony when he gets choked up.

5. Maybe as he bows his head over a flagged draped coffin, but we
know he's afraid to be around dead soldiers.

10. a Nirvana lyric that seems oddly appropriate
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:42 PM by bunkerbuster1
"the finest day that I ever had
was when I learned to cry on demand
love myself better than you
I know that it's wrong, but what should I do?"

...except that Chimpy doesn't know it's wrong, of course.

11. I didn't watch the RNC convention
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:51 PM by Ravenswood
But I do remember that after 9/11 Bush was criticized for being emotionless (I can't remember the context exactly - maybe it was that he hadn't given a press conference yet), and during a press conference shortly thereafter he produced some crocodile tears. It reeked of insincerity.

If a president truly wants to reach out to average people, he will skip the pretend TV preacher compassion and instead create and support policies that benefit them.

16. Depends on what they are crying for.
One instance is when Clinton shed some tears after the republican congress voted to impeach him. F'ing bastards made my president cry.:grr:

it speaks more, either of a lack of control or of a calculated marketing strategy.

19. I never want to see the President... but bush on the other hand?
He's not a President. He was appointed, not elected, therefore, by definition, he's just "sitting in" for a term.

And man, I want to see him bawling like a French soccer player.
I can't wait to hear his concession speech.

20. Only tears of remorse
I would like the prez to have even a moment of illumination, in which he is able to see and appreciate the damage he and his handlers have wrought. I'd like him to understand how hard his successor will have to work just to *begin* to undo it. I'd like him to have to answer to the subsequent generations who will be cleaning up after him.

Whatever it takes for him to go back to Crawford and never darken the nation's door again. He had his chance to prove that there was some validity to his wacked-out beliefs, and they have failed by every measure.

21. Only during nationally televised Party conventions
Otherwise I'd think he was some sort of fag or something - not that there's anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld would say.
