ONCE he's trying to use it for something GOOD. Why not support him in that endeavor?

He slammed him hard in his last album. His songs have often had a class element in them - like all rap.

10. lyrics (there may be small errors, from a fan site)
copyright 2004 eminem

mosh

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
It feels so good to be back..]

Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel, reenergize, and rewind
I give sight to the blind, mind sight through the mind
I ostracize my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I’m gonna whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi task
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft slash
Entrepreneur who has held long too few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let's all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors, come on

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we're responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength, and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme, just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply it by six
Teen million people are equal of this high pitch
Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it's all lies, the stars and stripes
They've been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you'll know why, because I told you to fight

So come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements,
if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences,
and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction
that we call our president, for the present,
and mosh for the future of our next generation,
to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

34. you are missing the point
you're typical PC - everything has to be interpreted YOUR WAY for it to be valid...

the culture of hip-hop has alter egos often - Em's alter ego is Slim Shady - and he knocks on everyone and everything as Slim Shady - including himself...

the thing is he made some gay jokes on his first album, it wasn't much - and the PC police made a big deal out of it - he dug in his heals and came out even filthier on his second album, to make a point - and he won the battle. After that he toned it WAY DOWN. A scene in the movie 8 Mile even has him stickin' up for a gay man.

So CHILL OUT!!!!

46. You wanna tell that to my many gay friends?
And in the meantime I'll be happy to miss any "point". Cry me a river if that's too PC for you.

And I won't tell you to wise up if you don't tell me to "chill," okay? If I can't see M&M's point, why is it MY fault, and not the possibility that he's a poor communicator despite all of his dope rhymes?

One final request: Let's not do this "You're typical PC" bullshit. I expect that on Yahoo, but not here. We've never met, so you have no clue about me, nor I about you. I have reasons for thinking M&M's an overrated prick, and you seem to think there are mitigating factors. I'm fine to agree to disagree, but don't dare to call me names or piss on me for not seeing things the way you do.

I hope we have an understanding and meet under more agreeable circumstances later on.

Cheers.

26. For Those that are being hard on Mr. Mathers
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 12:44 AM by TheWatcher
You're acting no different than the closed minded republicans you claim to be so against.

I was VERY against this kid and everything he stood for when he first started out. I thought he was a disgusting little brat that spewed hate from every orafice.

But let me tell you something, over the past few years this boy has grown UP. A LOT. You can see it in his person, and you can hear it in his music.

Considering the environment where this kid came from, he's had quite a transformation in a positive direction in his short career.

People CAN Change.

People DO Change.

He's trying.

He's still got growing to do, but he is TRYING.

He has opened his mind up. Try doing the same thing.

Even the most misguided can change their ways.

Don't be so blinded by your bias and judgement that you can't give anyone the benefit of the doubt to someone who is genuinely TRYING.

And in case you didn't notice, he's on OUR Side on this one, and he's got MILLIONS of fans.

Are you willing to sacrifice your country because you can't give someone the benefit of the doubt?

THINK.

30. As far as I know he DOESN'T Hate homosexuals.
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 12:56 AM by TheWatcher
People tend to grow when they get out of their environment, especially the one he grew up in.

Like I said, he has tried to open his mind to things that in the past he was so derided on his stance for.

But then again, you are such an authority on the man, you obviously know something we don't.

What is the exact Proof that you have got that he DOES hate homosexuals? Got Links? Got Interviews? Got PROOF? Know the guy personally?

Why don't you calm down and actually WATCH the Video.

It's undeiniably powerful, and I think you might be a little less judgemental if you could SEE what the kid has done.

Or just keep your mind closed and go on deriding something you haven;t seen, and therefore cannot objectively judge.

47. Can we ditch the sarcasm???
I'm not going to apologize for my opinion of M&M. To the degree that I know my gay friends are extremely uncomfortable with his lyrics, well, that's good enough for me to know that he doesn't exactly accept them with open arms. Or is there some contrition that I've missed?

That all by itself is a huge hurdle for me as far as taking the time to watch, let alone endorsing, his work in any way, and if you can't appreciate where I'm coming from, well, that's life, I guess.

35. 'Eminem Hates Homosexuals'

Good lord - The only people who think this are the people who are just too dense to 'get' his shtick.

His whole image is an over the top parody to specifically say the most incendiary things to get do-gooders to start wagging their fingers at him. That was his whole M.O. - Kind of the 'inside joke' between him and his fans. They sit back and laugh their asses off as people get all freaked out because he says 'I hit the trees harder than Sonny Bono' or 'I bought Lauren Hills tape so her kids could starve'

When he gets in to the area of using the 'fag' word he is doing so to "piss the world off" Not because he 'hates homosexuals' - Even though he says this in his song 'Criminal' point blank it is CLEARLY there as another instigation.

Anyway, forget about his collaboration with Elton John - Watch 8-mile in which he befriends and DEFENDS his gay co-worker from REAL hate.

People are confusing over the top and admittedly tasteless humor with real bigotry.

39. cool cool
I totally respect it when people aren't fans of rap. That's totally understandable. I don't like Jazz really.

But I wouldn't start to pretend to criticize a Jazz composition or artist when I am not an appreciator of the art form.

That's what is annoying when people that clearly don't "get" it try to hoot and hollar about it. If you have a criticism you can criticize his skills, or his delivery, or the fact that he is too much of a goof-ball - but to think of him as a hate monger or some shit demonstrates a lack of understanding of 'hard rap' in general.

51. The guy that got me into Eminem was gay...
I of course knew Eminem's music...but I never really LISTENED to it...until a close gay friend made me sit down and listen to him.

This was in '99. At the same time that everybody was shouting about him being a homophobe. That was the first thing I said to my friend. "Uh...you know he doesn't like gays? Don't you?"

My friend basically told me that he felt the people that were bashing HIM were no better than book burners. They were hearing...and not listening.

And as I was an art major (classically trained musician) I figured I should at least LISTEN to him before I passed judgement. And when I actually LISTENED...a lot of times...the offensive stuff he says is his way of condescending a lot of those people who actually feel that way.

My friend is no idiot either...he's a writer in LA...moderately successful. He's an extremely intelligent guy. He just "gets" Eminem. And since he got me listening to him (I still haven't bought one of his albums) I've realized...that guy is WAY creative. Some of the most innovative rhymes and the intricate poly-rhythms he delivers with vocal cadence in contrast to the drum tracks (it's like "spoken word counter-point"...for any Barouque fans)...shit...I would give a limb for a thimble full of that guys creativeness.

Include thimbles of creativeness from Stevie Wonder, Prince, and J.S. Bach (okay...J.S. literally was...and IS God to the ears of millions of Christians...so that might be a reach) and you'd have my Terminator Musician.

Great video.
