750,000 pounds of explosives of high quality could very easily level a small city - Seattle, for instance. That's of course assuming that this isn't mixed in with all of that depleted uranium sitting around for the asking that could very easily become vaporized by that amount of explosives. Because most such explosives are generally NOT radioactive, they could easily be shipped as part of ship's cargo and pass most if not all DHS sensors. An explosion of that magnitude in the docks of Seattle would probably claim the lives of anywhere between 10,000 and 100,000 people, cause immeasurable property destruction, and would dwarf any attack to date on the people of this country.

I'm quite convinced that any terrorist attacks on this country probably WON'T be nuclear. Why? It's too hard to get a nuclear weapon into a position where it would do much damage. Biological weapons are chilling in science fiction films, but such an attack, even with something as deadly as ebola, would very quickly run its course and has the potential to come back and haunt the people who first used it.

Large concentrations of explosives ARE chemical weapons. Right now, that store of explosives is being used piecemeal, but it wouldn't take long for someone to figure out that even a small portion of that cache could be enough to make 9/11 appear to be a minor incident.

Ironically, the problems that * has with this now is the fact that 1) the explosives went missing under his watch, and 2) increasing evidence shows that Saddam Hussein was not even remotely concerned with the United States and any weapons program that he did have was targeted at Iran. These ARE WMDs, make no mistake about it, but they weren't the nuclear fireball kind of fearmongering used to get the US to invade Iraq, and more significantly, they weren't intended to be used in any capacity except as conventional weapons against a troublesome neighbor. In the hands of post-Hussein militants, however, I have much less trouble recognizing what they COULD be used for.
