How many days does * have to pull off the big surprise?
Can he go right up until the day before election or even the day of, or will it not be effective that late? (Depending on whatever it is, of course.)

1. Maybe his campaign is in talks with Scott Peterson right now
To get him to confess to the murder on November 2. It's actually going to be the "November Distraction" this time around. Other than that, couldn't tell ya what he could pull off.

2. I think it depends on what it is.
If it's a scandal, it might take time to develop and gain momentum. For example, the news that Bush* had been arrested for DUI on the eve of the election last time just didn't have time to grow. The first reaction seemed to be, "That's not fair," which is often the first reaction in an ill-timed scandal. I don't think people like to be duped and they're leary at first.

If it's some sort of tragedy, such as an attack or a death, the impact would be more immediate, in my view. But such events can backfire as well if there's anything suspicious about the cause or timing.

With early voting already well under way in many states, I believe that time is running out on Bush* coming up with anything against Kerry but he may still be able to orchestrate something involving national security.
