Bush administration trying to spin explosives as no big deal....
these bunkers are not really all that different from the "thousands" of other "weapons sites"...and the military just couldn't protect everything.

Can you F'n believe it?

700,000 tonnes of high-grade military explosives wasn't something unique to them!! Just because it was sealed by the IAEA and they warned Bush about this site specifically before AND after the invasion.....this site and what was in it is no more important than any bunker with some crates of AK-47's and rounds. Just another one of the "thousands" of weapon sites around the country.

What an incredibly lame excuse.

2. Yup no big deal
Tell that to the people who lost a limb to these small potatoes.
Let's use the explosives to blow up an oil field or two. I betcha it would be a bigger deal toot sweet.

3. What an incredibly lame administration!
Everything they have laid their greasy little hands on has turned to shit. We need to hold the election now. No telling what else they can fuck up in the coming week.

4. Strange.
You'd think they'd try to trump these sites up as proof of Saddam's possession of WMDs rather than trying to dismiss them as no big deal. Maybe they'll think of that later.

13. The freepers are trying to do that....and complaining about media over it
But the administration couldn't try to pull that on anyone.

It was secured by the IAEA before the war, they'd look pretty dumb claiming WMD's!

Also, they've already come out and tried to protect themselves by saying it's not a "proliferation" threat.

23. My answer to that response is to shove about 2 ounces of RDX up their
butt and then ask how they feel about proliferation.

8. Uncheneyingbelievable!
So...
BushCo had to invade immediately (not wait for a mushroom cloud) because they knew where the WMDs were (and how many gallons and pounds).

But they only needed a small number of troops on the ground (compared to the number the generals said they needed...

Because they would be too busy collecting flowers and candy from a grateful nation...

Therefore, BushCo can't be held responsible for actually guarding the LABELED WEAPONS GRADE EXPLOSIVES?

I have a headache now.

9. So we have to start a war based on rumors of WMDs
but 700,000 tons of high-grade military explosives get stolen on their watch and it's no big deal? Lame doesn't begin to describe it.

12. It wasn't JUST the explosives that got looted
It was the high tech equipment that could help produce nuclear weapons that disappeared as well.

15. From Their Point Of View, Sir, It Is No Big Deal
Guarding weapons that might be used by insurgents to kill U.S. soldiers is nowhere near as important as guarding the guest-list and minutes of Cheney's energy policy meetings (where invading Iraq and divy-ing up the oil swag was certainly discussed, along with the gouging of California by "Kenny-Boy" Lay), or the contents of the C.I.A. inspector's report of administration failings that contributed to the success of the 9/11 attacks. It is simply a question of priorities....

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

have to get it right once, but we have to be right 100% of the time". So, doesn't that attitude contradict their response today minimizing what a DISASTER this is. SOo will the White House say, we were 99% right, but 380 tons of explosives in the hands of terrorists is the-OOPS- 1% where we totally fucked up?

Is this more gross incompetence by BushCo? Or, was it a dirty move to arm the insurgents and induce terrorism?

Read all the dirt on the (actually) 385 tons of high explosives on Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/003789.php

The first article is the latest. The many items below were posted earlier.

Josh has done a great job.

to the media.

There has been NO MENTION of this story since I put on MSRNC at 12:45. It's now almost 3:30 here. They're filling their time with repeats of everything BUT this story.

I fear this will be a dud, go nowhere.
