State explains independents
can vote in coming primary

Undeclared voters are getting calls erroneously informing them they cannot vote in the New Hampshire Presidential primary — and the state attorney general wants to know if someone is trying to tinker with election results.

“The right to vote is the most fundamental of things in our system of government and people shouldn’t be deprived of it by getting bad information,” Assistant Attorney General Bud Fitch said yesterday. “New Hampshire has a fine history of clean elections, and people shouldn’t be using inappropriate tactics, if that is what’s going on here.”

The Attorney General’s Office has received three complaints since late last week that undeclared voters were told they were ineligible to vote in the Jan. 27 primary because they missed the deadline to declare party affiliation.

Undeclared, or independent, voters may vote in the Presidential primary by choosing the ballot of the party of their choice at the polling place, the Attorney General’s Office said. They can restore their undeclared status immediately after voting.

2. Dupe:
There's already a thread about this on page one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=115970

This does not merit a thread of its own, since it merely expands upon information readily available in an existing thread.
