Bush Hasn't Held A State Dinner At White House Since 9/11
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 07:03 PM by cryingshame
Bob Colacello (he wrote book about Ron & Nancy Reagan) said on AAR that Reagan White House held lots of dinners.. where Democrats, Republicans and Foreign Dignitaries could mix and mingle.

Apparently it's more important for Junior to get his sleep than to have some socializing going on in Washington.

Oh, and Laura DID have a dinner with about 40 people and 35 of them were from Texas :eyes:

Washington is definately ready for a change.

I bet John and Teresa will even open up the White House for Christmas again.

3. Bush has the manners of a dead pig.
Barbara raised a charmless, disgusting troll who should properly be living under a bridge.

5. Did they have any before 9/11?
I could see a respectful moratorium on entertainment for a decent interval, but that seems long.

However... to have a state dinner, ya gotta have a state friendship... and we down to a slim group for fetes at this point.

I was wondering how social they were before 9/11.

7. They had a big dinner for Vicente Fox
just days before 9/11. People in DC were upset that they had a big fireworks display that scared people and woke schoolchildren. It was unannounced because they didn't want the peasants to come out and see it.

Since then, I've only heard of one other state dinner, for some Eastern European country, I think. Maybe Poland.

Washington society has ceased to exist and the people who partake of it are bored senseless with the Bushes, since they go to bed at 9:00 and aren't really interested in cultural events.

I'm in the middle of the Kitty Kelley book, and Poppy and Bar were quite a contrast to their wastrel son. The reason Poppy got into politics was because he saw the lavish lifestyle his father enjoyed as Senator. He wanted it for himself. When he became U.N. ambassador, they went to all the parties, leaving their kids to be raised by the servants. Bar especially loved the social whirl.

6. Diplomatically and socially the Shrub years have been
a dead zone in Washington.

I look forward to the classy, Kennedyesque state dinners the Kerry White House will host.

8. He is so pathetic
Who would go anyway? He has only a few friends and rummy and dick are from poppy's cabinet. He even snubbed his friend Vincente Fox.
His events are vetted and he doesn't talk to the press. He called the UN irrelevant, no real friends in school or military (what there was of it).
He is an outcast that can't relate to this country, much less the world.
