Bull-Moose Neoconservative Republican: Voting for Kerry
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 09:32 AM by mdguss
Great article in this month's blueprint from the DLC. This guy worked for McCain in 2000, was initially impressed by Bush after 9-11. But he is dismayed that Bush chose narrow partisan gain over national unity in the 2002 election. He doesn't agree with Kerry on everything, but he thinks that Kerry is the better choice in this election:

1. Great article...
I always e-mail to myself so that my republican husband can read the articles. He didn't register to vote. That will be one less vote for little bush.

2. Interesting.. It seems a lot of the Bull Moose Republicans
are still backing Bush. I'm not sure how this makes them any different than any other republican.

An old high school friend of mine used to run this website below. It seems he is not actively involved with this site any more. This website is endorsing Bush/Cheney.

This same friend also has an anti-Michael Moore website and an anti-Michael Moore book. I'm pretty sure he's still going to vote for Bush and he considers himself a Bull Moose Republican.

3. I just keep hoping
I just keep hoping a few very prominent Republicans will come out before Nov. 2 and renounce Bush in strong and clear language.

There have got to be a lot of "reality-based" Republicans out there who, no matter how much they disagree with Democrats in general, are more appalled by the incompetence of Bush's "faith-based" Presidency and how much he has broken faith with the American people.

I'm afraid, however, that in covering their own asses most such Republicans will wait until Nov. 3, having a better chance at keeping their own power in a turf battle with other Republicans, rationalizing that they can fix things later without giving up any power to Democrats.

5. There's a substantial Republican for Kerry contingent:
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 12:45 PM by mdguss
Fmr. Republican Governors of Minnesota and Michigan have endrosed Kerry. From being out there talking to people, there's a contingent of Republicans who will vote for Kerry but aren't going to be loud about it.

Generally, moderate Republicans are the ones who will vote for Kerry. But there's also a conservative contingent that is so fed up with Bush that they say, "Well, we really don't agree with Kerry, but somebody else should be given the chance."

Marshall Wittmann, the author of the article in the New Democrat Blueprint, seems to fall in between those two camps. My guess is 10-15 percent of Republicans end up voting for Kerry.
