1. I had to turn them off this weekend...
They were playing some story about the NRA endorsing Bush, and interviewed an asshole in West Virginia who was in charge of the effort there.

There's Bush signs up and down the street here.

"Well, there's one Kerry, but it won't be there very long." The old bastard actually sounded proud, as if he and his brownshirts would be removing it personally when the broadcast ended!

Then, Marla Crockett and her little buddy came on whoring for donations. It IS pledge season, after all.

ARE THEY ON CRACK? Like I want to donate to a radio network that has become the antithesis of what I loved about it?

Time for a letter from me.

Fuck NPR.

5. That was disgusting...
They went to the very fringes of the far-right on the piece, and it was LONG. I was shopping this weekend tuned to NPR and that NRA garbage lasted forever. It was really infuriating. I've pledged to never give to NPR again after what they did to Bob Edwards - who has more class and integrity in his pinky than the entire NPR management team.

7. My mental health has improved immeasurably
since I switched off National Propaganda Radio *except* to listen to Prairie Home Companion. As least Garrison Keillor still has some integrity.

2. An idea for pledge season...
tie up their donation lines by using them for complaints instead.

We could spearhead the effort here.

4. Oh, baby
am I EVER! I let my membership in my local NPR outlet lapse. They called me to ask why and I told them exactly the reason. I told them that they could try asking the Rethugs for the dough instead. I also called the pledge station after a particularly egregious "news report"-cum-media blow job and told them that's why I was through giving them money.

6. Suggestion: Stop giving them money. They don't deserve it!
Great post!

Also, when JFK is in a major initiative should be to stop federal funding for both NPR and PBS. They shouldn't be any body's political tool but they've shown that they will be media whores like all the rest. De-funding them while attacking media consolidation would be a nice package -- fair in both directions.

Does the federal government subsidize a huge percent of any of our salaries or businesses? I think not. So adios NPR/PBS.

8. Complain to local NPR affiliates as well
We have three NPR affiliates in the NYC metro area, though only one, WNYC, carries Morning Edition and All Things Considered. However, when you donate to either of the other two affiliates, WBGO (jazz) and WFUV (adult alternative), some of your contribution goes to support NPR. Yes, even if your affiliate doesn't broadcast ME or ATC, your money helps pay the salaries of the likes of Cokie Roberts and Juan Williams.
