Fox News: We Suck More Than You Thought
I was trapped in a doctor's waiting room for 90 minutes with Fox News this morning. I don't even normally watch ANY TV news (unless you count The Daily Show), so this was.....well, bad.

First SPENDING IS UP 1.5%, which means it's a SPENDING SPREE!!!!!! (these figures are from September and don't you dare think that maybe it was because of back to school shopping you un-American commie!) THIS SHOWS HOW STRONG OUR ECONOMY IS UNDER OUR KING GEORGE!!!!!

Then it's heavy drums, SCARY music and dramatic FLAME graphics and MIDEAST TURMOIL. In case you didn't see that the first time, we're going to cue the heavy drums, SCARY music and dramatic FLAME graphics with MIDEAST TURMOIL again!

Then we'll flash up WAR ON TERROR but go inexplicably to a BREAKING NEWS STORY in which an overly perky woman with extremely dry hair acts as if she is looking at a VERY IMPORTANT MONITOR over to her side and warning parents that ANTIDEPRESSANTS GIVEN TO TEENAGERS MAY ACTUALLY MAKE THEM KILL THEMSELVES. (irony is NOT noted by FOX and it is also not noted that not only is this NOT a breaking story, but has been out for quite some time)

Then we show our Great KING GEORGE many many times. Then we show some expert on economics saying not only were the tax cuts (all three of them!!!) fantastic, but they WEREN'T BIG ENOUGH!!!! Yes, that's right, they weren't big enough! CUT TAXES MORE!!!!

Next we tell you (again) about how SPENDING WAS UP IN SEPTEMBER 1.5%!!!!! SPENDING SPREE!!!!!!!

Then two men speak about Nader. TWENTY MINUTES ON NADER!!! The republican guy mentions Kerry mentioning the Cheney daughter and he does it twice, despite the fact that this segment is supposed to be about Nader! The dem guy gets cut off three times, doesn't get to speak first and doesn't get the last word! SHOCKER!

After that, we go to some bozo from the Washington Post who takes a poll showing people feel Kerry understands their problems better and explains it like this: "Sure people think Kerry understands their problems INTELLECTUALLY but they feel like bush is ONE OF THEM."

Ahem.

That's when I stood up, announced "This is a load of CRAP" and walked outside. When I came back in the receptionist wanted my copay and I asked her if we could turn the channel. She said "What's it on? Oh the doctor puts it on that crappy Fox News. Here, I'll change it." I was happy to hear her say that. She put it on CNN Headline News. I would prefer nothing, but you know. It was a HELL of a lot better and my blood pressure went down.

Crap, they suckity-suck-suck. For those of you who never watch Fox News (like me) you are NOT missing ANYTHING except some very high blood pressure. For those who do, I honestly don't know how you do it.

22. I don't think I could handle living there.
If the humidity didn't kill me, FoxNews would.

3. Clearly, you have underestimated my underestimation of Fox.
It is neigh impossible for them to suck more than I think they do.

7. Oh I don't know
I think they surprised me at JUST how badly they suck this morning. Or maybe I'm out of touch. I didn't know they were THAT bad. I mean, it's not just partisan stuff but the whole HIGH DRAMA of everything.

The waving flag constantly in the corner. The word LIVE up there too! The scrolling thingie on the bottom. The stock market numbers. The title of what we are doing right now above THAT. Then, amazingly they crammed MORE text on the screen for a while, when they shoved the guy they were talking to over to the left and put up DAYBOOK: BUSH TO GO TO OSHKOSH, KERRY IN MILWAULKEE and then more stuff on that daybook thing.

Ug. I am very visually overwhelmed so I doubt I could watch Fox News even if I was insane enough to like bush.

in America when the supposedly neutral tv site is so sickeningly biased.

6. I stopped going to my chiropractor because it was a right wing
office, Fox was on everywhere and there was a picture of Bush and Laura on the wall. I just stopped going because I found it offensive.

8. EWWWWW!!!
I could NEVER go to a doctor's office like that. Ick.

On the way in, I did park next to a car with a sticker that read: "Pray for President Bush and our troops" with my big ol' Kerry-Edwards sticker. I love doing that.

11. Personally, I might consider switching physicians
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 11:49 AM by depakote_kid
It seems to me (Texas or not) that having Fox news on evinces a distinct lack of judgment. I'm not kidding.

15. No he's truly fantastic
I mean seriously one of the best, most attentive, awesome doctors I have ever had. And he really doesn't strike me as a right-winger. He is very passionate about women's issues and has done work with Doctors Without Borders.

I think he just turns it on without thinking about it. Fortunately his office staff seems to hate Fox (one of them commented about the spending spree!! story: "Oh yeah, now we can all afford BMWs" very sarcastically) so if it is ever on when I go in, I'll just ask right away for them to change it rather than waiting.

21. I'm glad to hear that
After I posted I started thinking about all of the docs I know, and I doubt they'd pay much attention to it. For the most part, they're surprisingly non-political bunch.

12. Thanks - that was an EXCELLENT review!
I never watch FOX either because I just get pissed within 5 seconds, but I really enjoyed your play-by-play of the insanity.

Thanks again for your effort.
