Missed the debate last night... Can someone summarize?
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 06:43 AM by Arancaytar
I tried to stay awake, but I have to be awake at 6 am on Thursdays, so I could hardly watch TV until 4. Is there a transcript, summary, commentary, or whatever else on the web? I'd prefer it unbiased, but pro-Kerry is fair enough. As long as it doesn't say Bush won.

Edit: Oh, or just give me a breakdown of the debate yourself. :P

1. I CAN POINT OUT THREE SHALLOW OBSERVATIONS:
At one point early in the debate, Bush a some spittle on the corner of his mouth. I couldn't stop staring at it so I'm not sure what he was saying.

Bush was smug as though expecting applause after he completed answers. He made a funny smile and nodded his head resolutely once. But then you could see his expression slowly change as Kerry fired on brilliantly in response.

One thing though, I have to hand it to Bush, he worked tremendously hard at suppressing the smirk. He replaced it with a form blinking twitches.

6. Froth, frown, and frosted! I agree, I couldn't stop looking
at this white froth in the right corner of his mouth.

The man is/was RABID!!

You can find the transcript of the debate on nytimes.com and on CNN.com

The smirks, grins, trembling lips, inappropriate laughs all showed his ability to control his emotions.

9. My 9 year old and I
could not stop laughing at what ever it was in the corner of his mouth. I kept waiting for someone from his side to quietly point to the corner of their mouth ,however bush probably would have just gave them a confused look ! I told my daughter maybe Kerry should be extra nice and say Mr. President you need to wipe the corner of your mouth. However Kerry probably could not see it with all the lights etc. We started belly laughing all over again when he drank some water and the ugly white stuff was still there ! I thought ,this guy is foaming at the mouth, he has his finger on the button, this is our commander in cheif. God help us all ,if the American people are ignorant enough the give this guy four more years to continue messing up our country and the world !

10. In that case I suspect that
He took some medication to calm him down. This isn't normal (as if that weren't obvious)... the rabid president. Gee, I didn't think he could outdo his first performance, but if he looked as ridiculous as you said, the third debate was the worst for him.

Thanks for the tip about the transcript, btw.

I bet he's now sitting in some quiet room, being calmed down and cheered by his handlers... "Great job Georgie, you DID it! You've made it through the third one. Now things get easy again, I promise."

12. The Stroke theory would fit with this
If he truly did have a stroke, it's possible that one side of his body doesn't have the control that the other side has. That could explain the spittle, the sneers (if one side of his face can't lift into a smile like the other side can), the frequent interruptions in his train of thought and his refusal to take a physical before the election.

If the people knew that he had had a stroke they may not vote for him.

3. In a nutshell
Bush started out relatively strong, then after about two questions he lost his composure and Kerry kicked his ass.

At one point Bush was so flustered that he answered one question in two relatively asinine sentences and then stopped talking. He was obviously flustered. Schieffer turned it over to Kerry who asked "How much time do I have?" and he was told 90 seconds. Bush blew that one and then was pretty well shot for the rest of the debate.

A big, loud, YAY!

Even if I probably can't watch most of it (nobody I know made a recording), I can just imagine him. Like me in economics class, "Uuuuuhhhh... ufff... hmmmmm.... I don't know, Sir..." ;)

Edit: Oh, they'll repeat it? Great, now I just have to hope I can get C-Span at home. I suspect the only stations that I can view here and that broadcast it are BBC and CNN...

4. You can watch it online at C-Span
& they will repeat it many times in the upcoming week. So, if you really want to see it there will be plenty of opportunities.
