On my way home I tuned in the Bob and Brian show in Milwaukee. It's getting increasingly hard to listen to these guys in the morning, as they are both staunch Republicans, and sometimes obnoxious about it. I think Brian wants to be the new Rush.
Anyway, imagine my surprise when Bob mentions turning on the debate for a few minutes in between watching baseball, finding Bush telling a joke, and then doing that Bevis laugh. He just put his head in the sofa pillow and said, "No! Do. NOT. try. to. be. funny!" Bob said "If Bush has been doing that all night, we're done! We're toast!"
Brian agreed, saying that it worked alright for the convention, but that this was a more serious atmosphere. Worst for them was that he laughs at his own jokes. The least he could do was just say the line and let it hang there, they figured. But no, there's Bush laughing. They both did a devastating impersonation of that nervous Enis laugh Bush does. I was amazed. I've never heard them make fun of their president before. Made my morning.
They didn't like the "Tony Soprano" line either, but they didn't make fun of it aside from saying it just seemed disingenuous coming from Kerry.
Otherwise, the two of them agreed that both Repubs and Dems are going to fit in their stock lines no matter the question. And that was basically their take on what parts of the debate they saw. Not half bad coming from a couple of Repubs.
