How Bush's "mind" "works"
Earlier today, Karen Hughes introduces Bush to the concept of the "pay as you go" one-liner. It seems Rove has noticed the frequency with which Kerry attacks Bush on abandoning this principle of fiscal conservativism and thinks it could present the opportunity for a great "defining moment" one-liner using the phrase. So deep from the bowels of the WH war room, after being analysed into being at the Heritage Foundation and the Dennis Miller show's staff writers' office, comes the perfectly constructed gem, which Hughes now crams hard into Bush's pinhead. He is to wait until he hears the phrase "pay as you go" to engage the joke-gears and deliver at the very next opportunity. And sure enough, Kerry utters the phrase "pay as you go." Instantly, Bush hears in his mind, "Pay. Go. Pay. Go. Pay. Go. Pago. Pago..." and at the next opportunity for a response, this is the "gem" as he delivers it:

"He talks about pay-go. I'll tell you what pay-go means: when you're a senator from Massachusetts, when you're a colleague of Ted Kennedy, pay-go means you pay and he goes ahead and spends."

4. Very transparent.
People who aren't decided must be noticing the repetition of this stuff, followed by the smirk that says "Aren't I clever?"

6. This whole thing must have been very difficult for Kerry.
Imagine Einstein arguing with Gomez of the Addam's Family. The gap is just too huge. Everybody can hear it when they listen to Bush open his mouth. Kerry is so far beyond this brain case that it must be very frustrating.

He's probably glad it's over so he can get a good night's sleep.

7. Hey, leave Gomez out of this.
The Bushes are trash compared to the Addam's. Gomez may be old money, but he's a Democrat all the way.
