He was more coherent, I mean he lied much more convincingly this time. There is yet again, another question about his backside bulge. BUT.. I think the thing that is not helping him with true undecideds, or soft supporters, is his creepy factor tonight.

The wierd smiles at odd times, the drool, the blinking, and his answers.. were.. pretty creepy. I respect people's faith, but his religion answer was creepy. It should have scared the shit out of all but the most fervent born-agains. It was waaay over the top, and freaked me out.

Creepy? Anyone else see that?

3. Bad jokes and non-sequitors will do that
and he finally scored at the very end with the self depricating humor, of course we were all laughing at him anyways....

6. The "women in your life" softball WAS shrubya's high point of all 3
debates, I'll give him that. You can almost never go wrong with self deprecating gentle humor.

If the tone of the dude's administration was more like this I might actually LIKE him, instead of "watch what you say, watch what you do" and "Freedom Fries" and "you're with us or you're with the terra-ists!"

7. he was too giddy
definitely on something, too many forced smiles. Kerry was definitely more natural, Bush seemed possessed at times.

corner of his mouth... Eeeewwwwwwwwwwww

Everytime the man cackled or said something really REALLY stupid, my hubby's head turned to me with a WTF look on his face. LOL

Then as the debate went on, I caught hubby sitting next to me quietly shaking his head as the bush answers got more and more ridiculous!

14. thumping the table again and again
plus the shot at CBS news in an aborted joke and "paygo". These things are lingering with me. I'll let the goober slide.

Yup, almost two hours later and I'm even more sure that Kerry won and won big.

28. He was pounding an imaginary "air table"
The handlers must have drilled him on not pounding the actual table because all the noise would make him look...bad.

I guess they gave him an imaginary "air table" to pound. When you don't have much to work with, you do what you can.

16. Agree that he turned people off...
On style: he was flushed, had a little spittle in the corner of his mouth during a good half hour or so, and hit the podium a few times too many for comfort.

On substance: lied a lot and kept trying to turn the questions back to the no child left behind act. Minimum wage? NCLB will solve it! Job loss? NCLB will solve it! On and on. Problem is 1) lack of federal funding fo NCLB is placing financial burden on states & counties, increasing state, county & personal property taxes, and 2) many schools are failing the NCLB annual targets, 1200+ failing in CA, 450+ in Minnesota, etc.

Nope, not a good night for George "Got Wood" Bush.

18. A male friend of mine, a Repug, was watching the debate.
We were on the phone during the first half hour of the debate or so, and he kept asking me, "WTF is he laughing for? Why he is smiling?"

He didn't see anything funny. He also isn't planning to vote for Bush.

23. weird a libertarian friend of mine just changed his vote to Kerry too
He just told me in an email after this that Bush ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HAS TO GO and if he has to vote Dem for one election he will.

I think the drooling Bush and the always going back to laid off people need more education ( this guy is an educated and LAID OFF techie) finally got to him.

22. Yeah, Bush had the drool thing going most of the debate
He didn't know it? Couldn't feel it? Something is wrong. Then there was that crooked smile and Dazed look he had, like all the time.

Tell ya what, between his marked deterioration in his speaking skills (OK, he never was good but far worse now) and the way his handlers keep him away from reporters plus his obvious instability problem from debate to debate...there is some story here that is being covered up.

I suspect it medical in nature.

29. Bush* minor stroke?
If Bush had had a minor stroke, it would explain the items you mention, plus his recent propensity to fall off bicycles and Segways. Could this be the reason he is skipping his physical?

(Again)

24. those weird smiles were creeping me out
and I'm glad I'm nearsighted so I couldn't see the drool. I love the fact that he started out with the giant whopper about obl.I've seen him say that more than once. How stupid do you have to be to lie about something so easy to check? Just like cheeney the other night. The faith based crap was weird too. What kind of guns do you suppose the "armies of compassion" have? Are they the ones who are gonna take the young pregnant girls to the homes?
After his closing statemant he looked so proud or maybe he was peeing.
btw, it must be karen hughes feeding the lines cuz he said litany about 4 times and that is one of her lines. I wonder if he knows what a litmus test is?

26. I think my expectations were too high....
....I was looking for a knockout and didn't get it. While I sat there frustrated that Bush distorts and lies his way through the debate, I was even more alarmed that he was doing it effectively and believably, as you said. I really wish Kerry would have challenged him more, been more blunt about how, astonishingly, this administration's FAILURES in the domestic arena outpace Bush's well known FAILURES in foreign policy.

Kerry is clearly the better man in almost every way. There should be no comparison, really. One man has the tools to be president, the other doesn't. That the media, and we, are comparing fine points between the two is amazing to me.

It might be that I wasn't in the proper mood to view this thing tonight (given the opposite opinions posted on DU), but my take on the debate is a sports analogy. When a superior team (K/E) lets an underdog hang around in the game, the underdog may look silly and look outmanned for three quarters, but in the fourth quarter the underdog gets energy from being in the hunt and who knows what might happen in a close game. I think we let an abominable administration hang around too long in this game and I think an energetic Bush pulled a decent debate out of his ass and, at least on the surface, may have tied the debate and kept the overall race close.

So I'm a bit deflated....temporary I'm sure. I'm volunteering this weekend so that will pump me up again.

Why is it so difficult to crush these guys? They are like cockroaches...indestructable.
