I know we're always ripping on it -- but part of the reason that the Republican attack machine gets away with its lies and scheming is they are counting on oblivious and only partially attuned viewers.
This strategy might work for these people. Repeat a lie often enough, and it doesn't matter if it's a lie anymore.
But if you are a die-hard cable news watcher, such as myself, you get to watch ALL DAY LONG the Republicans, fresh from re-education get trotted out to answer a whole variety of questions with the same two or three points.
And if you EVER thought it was bad before, they are outdoing themselves now. Ed Gillespe and the rest of the Smirky/Snarly campaign people deserve an award for "most lies spewed out of a human mouth in the shortest amount of time." They're talking like CRAZY people, all arms and lips, saying "Liberal! More Government! Liberal! Massachussets!"
I just watched a S/S campaign person tell a ton of lies, in just a few short moments. Last week, Kerry had voted to raise taxes 98 times -- now, it's 350 -- and as one of the fact check sites said -- even the 98 couldn't hold up, because it also counted bills where Kerry HAD voted for a tax cut, just not as GREAT as a tax cut, as someone presumably wanted.
Same with the healthcare story -- SEVERAL places have stopped Smirky's lie about Kerry and socialized medicine. I just heard this guy scream "more government! More bureaucracy! More decisions in Washington! You'll lose your private health insurance!"
It's not true. It's simply not true. They're out there, in OVERDRIVE LYING THEIR ASSES OFF to the American public. If they were of strong stomach, and could tolerate watching a couple of days of cable news, then they would see the mind-control attempt that is being perpetrated on the American people.
George Bush is the biggest of the big government lovers. He wants the Religious right in your bedroom, your body, your wedding, your school, your courthouse, your television. He has expanded the welfare state, by funneling our tax dollars to the big pharmeceutical corporations. He's for all the authoritarian, puritainical programs of the right: the Drug war, consentual crime laws against euthanasia, prostitution, gambling, drug use. He supportst he gutting of the Bill of Rights, severe LIMITS on the 9th and 14th amendments -- and appointing judges that feel the same way. He's for handouts to corporations, farms -- using the military as a corporate arm, launching pre-emptive war. Even his "lower taxes" is a sham that ACTUALLY SHIFTS the tax burden ONTO the middle class, in a big-government engineered attempt to boost the economy. He's mortgaged the middle class kids for an all-out money grab for the fat cats, and we're actually stuck footing the bill.
Now, about the cable news. No, I don't like them -- it's a travesty. If any of these reporters had ANY spine, they'd come right out and challenge the spin facts. It's OK to do that, with facts, it's called -- asking questions. It's not editorializing to say, "excuse me, you're lying. So and so place says this.." or "well, the record shows..." and then turning it into a question. These people are slimebuckets. All of them, lap dogs.
Anyway, the GOP spin machine is a thing to behold. They're throwing around bullshit faster than a jackrabbit on cocaine. It's really pathetic and sick. Someone should just capture like 30 seconds of each of them, and make a montage. Not just the one-word talking point montages. They look fucking crazy. Someone jimmied with their "fast-slow" switch. It is a thing to behold.
