Is anyone concerned about the pro-Bush bias of tonight's moderator?
His brother pals around with Bush and practically worships him.

1. No. Schieffer is very professional. From what I see on Face The Nation..
I see Schieffer as being fair. Both Leher and Gibson were fair and I expect the same from him too.

4. I'm holding out
hope and trying to keep an open mind. Schieffer has a good reputation, but I haven't been too impressed when watching him on Sunday morning. So...I'm keeping my eyes peeled.

5. Bob comes from a very respected Democratic Party family...
in Fort Worth.

I expect him to be fair, which is why the freak monkey is quivering right now.

9. His brother
was in the baseball business with shrub and was appointed by him to be US Ambassador to Australia. That said, I'm not worried about Bob Schieffer. He's an honorable old school journalist.

11. Forewarned, we'll be listening for it
The moderators have been judged
on their "performances" by some, so I
don't doubt that Bob will be judged also.

12. That's his brother. He may not worship dubya.
It could be something like Bill Bennett and his brother. Remember Bill Bennett hated Clinton's guts but his brother was Clinton's lawyer.

13. Dan Rather's buddy?
Prior to each of the debates, there have multiple threads worried about the Republican leaning of the moderators. But I think each has been fine and Kerry and Edwards have looked great.

CBS News' reputation has been bloodied by this Administration. To whom do you think Shieffer is going to be more loyal - an occasional golf partner or the news organization that built your reputation over 40 years?

14. No. Bob will do a good and fair job tonight!
He's from the well respected "old guard" of broadcasting.

What in the world are we going to do when all the "old guard" reporters are gone? I'm trying to think of any ethical young replacements, and can't seem to come up with any!

15. several of his recent interviews reveal
his bias is ANYTHING but pro-Bush.

I have Freepers in my family, too. That don't make me one.

Schieffer is also kind of a softball questioner (if you've seen Face the Nation much, you know what I mean). He said just yesterday that he doesn't want to play 'gotcha' or try to trip anyone up; he does want to ask questions that require the two men to outline specifics of their respective plans as they relate to domestic policy.

So I expect the debate will center around taxes, deficits, Medicare, unfunded mandates like NCLB and -- hopefully -- Homeland Security; maybe there'll even be a question on immmigration policy.

Bush has a bad record to defend (and I suspect he will again fail to defend it).

17. No- Bush tanked in first debate even with all the rules in his favor
I hope Bush takes advantage by trying to break the rules again and comes out looking like the stumbling undignified bully he has shown himself to be previously in these debates. Bob Schieffer talks as if he is relishing the opportunity to preside over some fireworks tonight.

18. no
He was on Maher's show (or was it Jon Stewart?) and he was talking about the silliness of the VP debate with the moderator's question regarding not mentioning Kerry's name--he was very funny about it and seemed genuinely amused at 'suggested' questions he should ask that were not favorable to *.

19. YES ........ I am concerned about schieffer's bush leanings ...
i don't trust schieffer at all, and in this aura of bush worship he is going to get swallowed up and throw the favorable light and length of answers and questions to him ... i have been concerned about schieffer for a long time now ... i saw him on a larry king live program a couple of years ago. i can't recall exactly what it was he said, or what the topic was that he and larry king were talking about but, whatever it was that they were talking about, my fair-and-balance antenna went up and i said to myself, this man sports a pro-bush tilt. he still does.
