Are postmodern fundamentalists -- they are incapable of seeing things from anyone else's perspective but their own. That's why they never stop to ask themselves why there is no John Kennedy or Teddy Roosevelt in either party, nor a speechwriter capable of touching universal themes that neither side believes exist. They only believe in their own opinions.
In this case, that means they don't even know where to begin to fight Bush. They can't imagine that throwing Bush's words in his face
(we can't win the war on terror)
(you can't send mixed messages and be president)
(need some wood?)
could POSSIBLY damage him because they incorrectly assume that everyone else is just as detached and ironic and well-informed as they are.
Again, this is why we got no great speechwriters, no common themes that touch the hearts of the people on the street. And neither do the Repubs, thank goodness.
Lemme guess, you were joking about that Kerry ad, right? No way would Shrum be so pro-active. He is determined to lose this election for Kerry just like all the others he's managed. Kerry can't be a closer if the people around him (including DUers totally oblivious to the damaging nature of certain * remarks) don't know what closing entails.
