Is There ANY Way We Can LOSE?
I mean, I am usually the skeptic and the cynical one, but I really don't see how we can lose this election.

We have the momentum, the debates have shown Kerry to be a far more capable man than bush could ever hope to be, huge numbers of bush voters from 2000 will be voting against him this time, and the vast majority of newly registered voters (such as myself) will be voting Kerry.

I'm very optimistic. :)

1. I'm optimistic too but
I never misunderestimate the levels BushCo will stoop to in order to "win" the election. Never. They are evil, spiteful people and will tell any lie, silence anyone, whatever it takes.

29. 527s are not allowed to run ads within 2 weeks of the election
Which means they'll be shuffling money to non-527 PACs for their election skullduggery.

That means that this is the last week they can show those ads? Not that the Junior-sponsored ads are any better, though.

I would almost bet money that Bush's 527s are transferring money to conventional PACs even as we speak.

5. Don't forget -- you're not the only one who gets to vote
Personally, I find your comment to be patently ludicrous. Of course we could lose. At this point, any gaffe by Kerry could be enough to tip was currently appears to be an evenly divided election.

You clearly fail to appreciate just how far Bush's supporters are willing to go to help their guy win. Just look at who is backing Bush: industry, the media, religious leaders. Do you seriously expect these guys to simply roll over? The fact that this election remains even in spite for one the worst track records EVER compiled by any incumbent president is testament to the determination of Bush's supporters to back their guy come hell or high water.

And the fact is, we haven't even seen the worst of it.

26. But we can win by the same logic.
The one who's making the gaffes right now is shrub. He hasn't exactly out preformed Kerry in the debates and believe me, people are taking note of of his recent behavior. If Osama is captured now, it will look like a plant, Rove probably knows this and that why I don't think it will be their 'October surprise'. Sure '*' has the media on his side but even he can't hide from obvious transparencies such as his behavior during the debates.
A lot can happen in less than a month, not all uncontrollable events favor the pugs, take for example the recent loss of Chris Reeve, as sad as it is, it could, like the loss of Reagan, turn this election in our favor. (No disrespect for Reeve BTW, he was a huge Kerry supporter, Rest in peace Superman...)
P.S. You don't know want to know what many Kerry supporters would do, at least in a congenial fashion that differs from the Bushies brownshirt tactics, to see that our man wins on Nov. 2!

6. I'm cautiously optimistic
I believe that, IF the Bushistas don't steal this election, Kerry will win handily.

But I also believe that * and his cronies would pull any and every dirty trick under the sun and then some in order to hang on to power, and I would put NOTHING past them.

11. yeah we need to be wary of overconfidence...
... it played a factor in 2000, and again in 2002. Don't want to repeat that again.

I'm feeling pretty good right now about our chances, but sounding like the sterotype of elitests (that chimpy thinks we are) would only feed more myths and division between people right now.

And honestly, do we need more division in this country?

20. I find that whole "elitist" label a laugh...
1) It would seem logical to have smart, intelligent people making decisions of national (and sometimes, world) importance. Most of the smartest people I've known have also been well-educated, whether via college or self-study. I don't think putting dummies in charge of nuclear weapons is such a good idea.

2) The main people who are flinging around the "elitist" label as something undesirable are -- usually themselves college-educated -- hypocrites. I wonder sometimes, however, about whether college wasn't a waste of Bush's time and money, especially when he admitted to not being a reader. His view of the world comes in the form of highly filtered, one-page briefings each morning with no dissenting viewpoints presented. People wonder why he seems so out of touch with the real world, this is why. I also think that's dangerous -- for a lot of reasons.

3) If every dissenting voice is coming from an elitist, we sure have a lot of extremely smart people in this country. If so, I think they deserve to have good jobs, so let's throw the dummies out of office and give their jobs to the really smart people. I think we should start doing this with government, and then move on to the media.

22. i agree with you
it is total BS, but none the less, its a label we are saddled with. We must dispel that puppy and by not seeming to be arrogant to our fellow Americans will help that along.

Sure we're smart, but so are they. All human beings have the same potential to be "smart," however, it is not in use very often. The GOP has a bunch of smart people in it, but they know full well that serfs are easier to control than an educated electoral.

And so they go to great lengths to keep their supporters in the intellectual dark. And this "elitist" crap is part of that. It is also the same tactic that big business tries with the consumer. They don't want you to know about BGH or pesticides, for example. Big business uses it all the time for a ton of different reasons and aims... and since the GOP elite are businessmen (mostly) well... you can see where its going.

Kinda sad really, the neocon doesn't have an original thought in their collective heads. They have to rely on the same crap that's been known and used for centuries.

Than vote for Bush , but that doesn't mean that Kerry will be have the most votes counted for him . Here's a couple of articles about these 'voting machines' , which demonstrates how easily , the votes can be tampered with .

13. Yes, look at the electoral map, not national polls
It still comes down to a state by state race.

Kerry needs to hold all Gore states & pick up additional votes.

Wisconsin is looking shaky.

We need Florida or Ohio, or a combination of smaller states, like Nevada, Colorado, New Hampshire, etc.

And look to the dirty tricksters in the final days, so we must be prepared.

17. Sorry, but I'm a pessimist
A lot of things can still go wrong:
1) Diebold and other Republican corporations control a lot of the electronic voting in this country
2) Osama bin Laden is on ice waiting to be unveiled a week before the election - too late for DNA tests to reveal if he is a fake or not.
3) Operation Northwoods redux - Back in the 60s, the Pentagon proposed staging fake terror attacks in the US and then blaming it on the Cubans. JFK put the kibosh on it, but it got to that level. If a similar operation got put onto Bush's desk, would he reject it? Remember, after 9/11, the country rallied 'round our War President.
4) Osama is not on ice, but is going to stage his own Northwoods in hopes of getting his recruitment poster boy (Bush) re-elected.
5) Jeb Bush still runs Florida with an iron fist.

19. Follow the MONEY because it speaks.
Overconfidence - failure to vote - failure to get the vote out - less competent than the repugnants in getting the vote out - ability of the resident at 1600 to organize and spin a terror attack - etc etc etc.

In my case one of my angry moments in the last debate was the failure of JFK to slam bunnypants on the propaganda term "PBA" which court after court has said does not exist and which is simply a Phantom Procedure dreamed up by the Anti Abortion Propaganda Industry (AAPI). I really expect more from the guy whose goint to gurad women's reproductive rights.

Check the Iowa Electronic Markets http://tinyurl.com/4xec4 to see where the money is actually going. They called it right last time. This is one where you put your money where your mouth is so it tends to be difficult to DU or freep.

We were behind before the first debate and have not caught up yet although the momentum is heading that way. It's still far too close to call.

33. yes we can lose, and here is why I don't like these kinds of
posts:

(1) voter turnout: the race will be close and we need every last vote. "We can't lose" posts make people feel like they can take it easy and stop worrying about getting every last voter to the polls.

(2) voter fraud: repubs will do everything they can to squeeze unlawful votes out of the process. We need to be ready to act, and "we can't lose" posts generate nothing but smug satisfaction with the status quo.

(3) hubris or "bachi": don't be getting all confident or you will tempt the gods or goddesses or giant turtles to smite you and us with you.

No need to despair. Lots of hope. But never overconfident! We are up against the forces of Sauron and right now Frodo and Sam are still wandering in the land of Mordor.

We can lose easily, and they don't even need to cheat. We have very small margins in our favor in the handful of states that matter (OH, NV, OR, PA) and are still behind in states we really would like to get to avoid vote count "problems" (MO, FL).

Now add that they might try to cheat, and it gets dicier.

I fear this kind of over-confidence. If you think it's hunky-dory, then start aiming higher -- for the House, say. That ought to keep people busy for a while. ;-)

37. Be Very Afraid
We have to keep on fighting like we're losing going in to Nov. 2. I'd rather continue working like hell and be pleasantly surprised by a landslide, than assume that we'll be just fine and lose like we did in 2000. I recall one of Bill Clinton's early bits of advice to Kerry: you need to campaign as if the war was going well and the economy is going great guns....just attack the administration on its weaknesses on the issues that matter to average Americans.

We have to keep the pressure up and turn out every last voter we can get our hands on.

Don't give up until the scoundrels are thrown out of office.

GO KERRY-EDWARDS!!!

39. According to betting odds, Bush has roughly 9 chances in 14 to win
So what kind of question is this?

An incumbent with roughly a 50/50 approval rating can hardly be dismissed three weeks in advance, regardless of his obvious incompetence. I tire of the absurd comparisons to Carter and Bush 41, who had approval ratings in the high 30s and low 40s at election time.

We had significant advantages in '92 and '96 in the form of Bill Clinton and his trump card daily dialogue, and in 2000 based on Clinton's 8 year economy. This year we can only sling at Bush and hope he is justly rejected. It's anything but a cinch.
