Why Bush will struggle Wednesday night
I think Woody does best when he can be loud and act like he is confidant as we saw in the town hall debate. He would make a good TV evangelist! Town hall debates are a lot more theatrical and content gets lost in how loud you emphasize words. I have a feeling Bush will be loud and arrogant again because he feels he has to do that to compensate for the lack of depth and content in his answers. This may be a huge mistake Wednesday because if he is loud and arrogant in a stuffy, traditional style debate he is going to look like a fool! I think Bush is intimidated by Kerry so when he can look energetic and jump up and be loud he feels he can cover up his nervousness. He won't be able to do that Wednesday and if he does it will completely backfire! Kerry thrives in the traditional style debate and I think he will thrive on Wednesday. Kerry will have several curve balls to throw at Bush to get him off kilter. Kerry will be methodical and totally prepared. Chalk it up to 4-0 for Kerry/Edwards after Wednesday!

2. ever see a terrier and a mastiff?
the terrier jumps up and down, spins round and round, barks loudly and generally tries to look bigger and scarier

the mastiff just stands there and looks at the shenanagins and holds his ground

remind you of anyone?

3. GOOD POINTS
although 4 and zero is a bit of a stretch. I thought Edwards was totally lame and defensive, although he seemed to get a draw during the "spin" period simply because the VP is such a patholical liar. If just once Edwards would have called a LIE a LIE, i think he could have turned that debate around. oh well spilt milk, Kerry is kicking ass and thats what counts, edwards will get another shot and he will come through

4. Also remember the theme of this debate is domestic
Bush doesn't have a leg to stand on, though I'm sure he'll work 9/11 into his speech within the first 90 seconds.

5. I swear he's so predictable it's sad
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 11:35 PM by Moonbeam_Starlight
Here's what he'll do:

1. A lot of those touching his chest with both hands, then bringing them out, palm out, as if to say "hey why don't you believe me?" gestures.

2. Slouch on the podium, slouch on the podium, slouch on the podium (bar grabbing).

3. Lean in/jut out chin when emphasizing (non)point and open eyes wide.

4. Strange smile, yet not smile thing combined with trademark smirk when talking.

5. Struggle to look disengaged when Kerry is speaking, since it's either that or look pissy and lemon-sucking.

6. Do a lot of this: "heh" "heh" "heh" "heh" "heh" "heh" when speaking.

7. When done with a non-point, look like he either farted, made a good joke or both. It's a look that is questioning, as if to say "did I do good? Was that a good one?" Do that a lot.

8. LIElielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielielie. Then lie some more.

9. Chuckle at inappropriate moments.

10. Try not to sweat.

11. Blustery half-sighs, scoffing sounds.

12. Blink his ass off. Then try not to blink so much and look even more deranged.

13. Camel jaw from possible amphetamine/cocaine usage.

Have I missed anything?

11. Invariably, he'll preface his sentences, "you see, it's like this."
I see, and it's usually 180 degrees from what you declare.

He does that at least once in every public appearance.

not going to do much better which I'm thrilled to say amuses the hell out of me. No one deserves the humiliation more.

12. Walking around for the town hall helped dissipate some of his tension...
Back at the podium, I think Bush will be wound up really tight and will start hanging over the podium no matter how much his handlers tell him not to. He will have to hang on to maintain his grip. If he self-consciously tries NOT to do the podium thing, that's just another distraction he'll have to deal with....

19. Yup. The town hall format was his best bet, and at the absolute worst,
it was a draw for Kerry, according to most post-debate feedback. We saw how awful he did in the more formal debate on foreign policy (his supposed "specialty"). Now we're going all-out domestic. Add to that the fact that Kerry's a closer, and we're going to be okay. I was a hndwringer for one reason or another over the first three debates, but I'm feeling much more confident about this one. Not overly so, but definitely less apprehensive.
