compare to now:

For instance, I noticed on the list for chimpy is the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, well this time they endorsed Kerry.

Etc.

2. I'm compiling a list for both.
I will post it next week. It will show circulation and who endorsed * in 2000 but Kerry now, stay tuned!

3. The Chicago Tribune should go for Kerry this time.
The LTTEs have been blistering. There probably isn't any hope for the Chicago Sun-Times, however. With the exception of a few columnists and, of course, the wonderful film critic Roger Ebert, it is the NY Post of Chicago.

5. Wasn't Bush the first Republican the Suntimes endorsed
in a very long time?

Traditionally the Trib has leaned right.

10. I believe you are correct.
And traditionally, the Trib would lean right because it is owned by the Tribune Company -- the media congomerate that owns:

Broadcasting
WPIX - New York
KTLA - Los Angeles
WGN - Chicago
WPHL - Philadelphia
WLVI - Boston
KDAF - Dallas
WATL - Atlanta
KHWB - Houston
KCPQ - Seattle
KTWB - Seattle
WBZL - Miami - Ft. Lauderdale
KWGN - Denver
KTXL - Sacramento
WXIN - Indianapolis
WTTV - Indianapolis
KSWB - San Diego
WTIC - Hartford/New Haven
WTXX- Hartford
WXMI - Grand Rapids
WGNO - New Orleans
WNOL - New Orleans
WPMT - Harrisburg
WBDC - Washington
WEWB - Albany
KPLR - St. Louis
KWBP - Portland
WB Network (partial stake)
Tribune Entertainment

Cable
WGN
Chicago Land Television
Central Florida News 13

Radio
WGN - AM (Chicago)

Newspapers

Newsday (Long Island, NY)
Los Angeles Times
Chicago Tribune
Baltimore Sun
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Orlando Sentinel
The Hartford Courant
The Morning Call (Allentown, PA)
Daily Press (Hampton Roads, VA)
The Advocate (Stamford, CT)
Greenwich Time (CT)
La Opinion (Los Angeles)
Exito (Chicago)
Hoy (New York)
El Sentinel (Orlando)

Other
Chicago Cubs
Tribune Media Services
Classified Ventures (partial)
Brass Ring
Zap 2 It

Chicago magazine

That being said, the Trib is still the "intellectual" newspaper in town, along the lines of the NY Times. After being gung-ho for the war, the Trib has eaten crow and actually come out with some good reports on how Bush has bungled the mess in Iraq.

7. I live in Houston and I can't believe the Austin American-Statesman .
Austin American-Statesman: "The Republican Texas governor has demonstrated the rare combination of humanity, humility and leadership in using the limited power of his office to lead and push a dynamic and growing state with grace, dignity and confidence. Has he done everything right? Of course not. Whatever our disagreements with the governor on policy matters—and there have been some—we know him and we respect him. Moreover, we trust him." (Austin, Tex., 10/22/00)

I can't imagine the Austin American-Statesman endorsing * again in 2004. Besides the policy differences - that they acknowledge - all of what they praise him for has turned out to be a giant crock of shit.:puke:

8. Yep
No freaking way the AAS will endorse him this time. Austinites will burn their frigging offices down! They wanted to last time (not literally but they got an avalanche of hate mail over that) but held back. This time, it'd be on like Donkey Kong if they endorsed him again.

They won't. Trust me.

11. I sent an email to the Houston Chronicle
to see if they had endorsed anyone yet and why they should endorse Kerry over the idiot. All I got back was a note saying they hadn't made up their minds yet but they were working on it. They're so conservative editorially I'll be mighty suprised if they don't go for *.
