PLAN OF ATTACK AGAINST SINCLAIR BROADCASTING:
Look here:

http://www.sbgi.net/business/television.shtml

That is a map showing Sinclair's local affiliates. You can click on the stars and bring up the stations owned by Sinclair in a local area.

Attacking Sinclair directly is not going to help with this. They're obviously expecting a backlash, and with Michael Powell at the helm the FCC obviously isn't going to do anything.

WE HAVE TO ATTACK THIS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL- THE INDIVIDUAL AFFILIATES. While the group itself may not listen to us, if we raise enough hell with each station, they may back down and not air the documentary.

Please, click on the stars in your area, perhaps your whole state, and email the General Managers, POLITELY TO BEGIN WITH, your concerns about this documentary. Just ask them if they're planning on airing it. Then, if they reply to you that they ARE going to air it, it's time to take the gloves off. We need to write letters to the editor, picket the stations, organize boycotts and anything else we can possibly think of to keep these bastards from doing what they're doing.

1. I think we need to do all three.
I threatened to sell my stock in Sinclair and suggest my Democratic friends do the same ;) in an email to the investor relations area. I know that this can be very effective. Especially if it's rumored that mucho people are going to start selling stock.

I think we should approach the FCC as well because even if they don't act, they are technically obligated to.

I also like contacting local affiliates, but that is but one piece of the activism puzzle me thinks. :hi:

3. It's the most effective one.
This is where we can make the most headway. The rest is flailing and hoping.

Put significant pressure on these stations at the local level, and they will fold.

4. I think again that if you put financial pressure on Sinclair they
may reconsider as well?

I think we need to do it all. I just contacted my local affiliate and asked them their intentions, I'll letcha know what I find out.

2. Plus, Michael Moore should forget pay-per-view
& show Farenheit9/11 on Showtime or somewhere
at the same time this Sinclair crap is playing.

8. Addional steps
Regardless of who chairs the FCC, we have to hit it hard. We also need to complain to the FEC.

Contact Democratic senators and congressmen in states with Sinclair-owned stations
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/

Contact John McCain - do so at his website onlinehttp://mccain.senate.gov/ Click Campaign Finance as topic

Contact the DNC and the Kerry campaign

Use the media contact list on GD Election 2004 page to contact all the major media outlets. Be sure to include Hardball, and Countdown at MSNBC.

Write LTTE to your local and national papers

Write letters to sponsors Here's what I found from Sinclair affiliate pages:

Prudential
Century 21
Bank of Iowa
Prairie Heart Institute
WCHS (Charleston< WV) is affiliated with CNN
Sirius Sattelite Radio (Charleston SC Sinclai)
Toyota (www.buytoyota.com) (Columbus Ohio station, and Dayton OH)
ITT Tech (Columbus OH)

6. By the way, that site gives a lot of information on the local stations.
They've got phone numbers and addresses. Calling them is probably a really good idea, and if it comes to it, picketing.

7. I'm outraged too,
but I believe that we should first hear what the campaign wants to do with/about this.

10. Also, contact the parent networks
CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. may be able to put some pressure on affiliates who try to pre-empt network programming for partisan political purposes. Let the network corporate offices know that you don't like the fact that Sinclair is trying to hijack our airwaves for blatant political purposes.

In my market, some of our affiliates have been refused permission by the parent networks in the past to pre-empt prime time programming for college basketball games, and Sinclair stations include affiliates for all the major networks. So I think putting some pressure on the networks themselves is a good way to get ahead of this thing as well.
