Three Debates in the Last Week from Dems! Where is Wes Clark?
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 09:06 PM by KoKo01
When is he going to show up and debate issues with his fellow Democrats?

I only saw him once way back...and I've watched all the debates and even listened to the one on NPR! Where is Wes....?

Is he waiting to run in like the "WHITE KNIGHT on his CHARGER" at the Last Minute figuring that all our Dems are going to Implode and he can "charge the field and win" like some Medieval figure from a "Fantasy Novel about King Arthur?"

Is Wes waiting to take the "Sword from the Stone?"

Forget about it....this is really a lame thrust to only the last "Romantics Left in America!"

He really does seem like a "Perfumed Prince" if he can't join our Democratic Debates!"

But...maybe he's NOT A DEMOCRAT! Or, we just don't meet his criteria of folks he wants to talk to?

1. He's probably in New Hampshire,

where he recently moved into second place, against all expectations.

2. Nope
It's pretty simple. The last two major debates were in Iowa. Clark isn't campaigning there. The debates are rarely worth watching, and shed light on virtually no new issues. Instead Clark is staying put in NH, where he's staked his claim while the other candidates have been elsewhere. As a result, he's moved to 20% there.

4. At least he's safely out of this mess.
Only Edwards and Kucinich have looked good so far tonight, and Dean has looked really tired.

5. Who cares?
As long as he keeps doing what he's doing, missing the debates hasn't hurt him at all.

Keep it up Wes.

7. When there's a debate Wes will be there....
So far, all we've had is 9 people is a joint press conference...90 second sound bites with 30 second rebuttals is a joke. Many people watched the first 3. Junkies watched the next couple. We're up to what, 10 now. Do you really think CMB has a chance? Sharpton? Kucinich? Lieberman? Edwards? Why would any serious candidate who started late and ISN'T EVEN COMPETING IN IOWA worry about being in a debate in Iowa. For every vote he loses, he stands to win 10 more.

By the way, you really should work on your slams. Colonel Hackworth, the originator of the smear "Perfumed Prince" has since apologized

http://aggressive-voice.com/zz590.html

An apology is appropriate when you've defamed someone who spent a year in rehab for defending his country. You might not think so, but Colonel Hackworth had the class to and many Democrats feel the same way..

11. You are saying Wes is "above the fray?" He doesn't wish to engage?
That's what I asked. Is he waiting to be King Arthur? He doesn't have to do any work besides pulling the "sword from the stone?"

Is this for real?

10. Hunkered down in an undisclosed location
Sound familiar?

Actually, it may be a wise decision from a political standpoint. The debates offer such a lame opportunity to persuade voters, while at the same time providing plenty of opportunities to screw up. Arnold used the same tactic, being new to politics it is the safer choice.

I don't really like the fact that Clark gets a free pass, but I don't blame him for doing the smart thing. However, this just makes it all the more difficult for me to consider voting for a guy who may not be up to the challenge. I'd rather see how he stands up to debating now, rather than finding out after donating and working for his campaign.

Face it, we just don't know what we are getting with Clark. I like my candidate well enough not to throw caution to the wind on a new politician, a new Democrat and an unknown, untested, military General.

15. Clark is busting his ass in NH right now.
He's participated in most of the debates, with the exception of the last few in Iowa.

I'm sure anybody who reads DU regularly is quite aware that Clark is not participating in the Iowa caucuses and is concentrating on the NH primary, and if they are aware of this, then they know why Clark wasn't at the debate, and any outrage is quite misplaced and serves as little more than candidate-bashing histrionics.

I wish to high heaven that people on DU would stop using the republican perjoratives for ALL of our candidates. I have not done so for any of the candidates, and won't. To refer to him as "the perfumed prince" is pretty freaking low.

16. Locking...
1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

Thanks,

DU Moderator
