Poll question: Would Howard Dean have won tonight?
Curious to see what the rest of the old school Dean lovers (like myself!) believe about tonight. Let's have an alternate future here for a bit.

Not to drag the past back into the light, but really, how do you think Dean would have matched up against Bush in this format, these questions, and with the internets chirping away.

7. True, but we need a break from the internets and buying wood
I thought I'd interject a bit of a different topic for the evening.

It's been over for Dean for almost a year. Why keep harping on it?

Yeah, in a dream world where Dean somehow won the nomination (which did not happen or even come close to happening), he probably would have yelled a lot and Chimpy would have yelled back...but...it's like asking if the band Bread was the next Beatles.

Yunno....

18. Yep
I've got nothing but respect for Dean, he was my number two guy behind Kucinich in the primaries, but it's time to give it rest. Like it or not Kerry is the guy.

22. I LOVE Howard Dean now...
It's almost disingenuous to bring up Howard in this light. He's doing a fabulous job these days and bringing him up in this way is a tad childish.

I was going to mention how Dennis would have done in this situation. He would have done a GRAND job as well.

We need to focus on de-Chimping America.

24. Just trying to find a different topic, other than the ones that we've had.
tonight.

Probably isn't the best time, yeah, I'll agree. But, I do mean it with all sincerity and no hard feelings. Several people feel Dean would have gotten smashed by Bush in the debates. I'm just curious to see if others feel that way or if Dean would have won tonight.

Some have pointed out that this evening could be Bush's Dean Scream, which got me to thinking how Mr. Dean would have fared this evening.

I fully acknowledge that Kerry is the candidate and I honestly believe he did a better job tonight than Dean would have. Kerry's cool is something Dean does not possess, which proved to be quite a asset considering Bush's ridiculous speech.

28. I understand
I wasn't a big fan of Dean during the primary season. I understand your frustration at seeing the possibility of having Dean being in the ring with Chimpy.

It's an unanswered enigma. If Howard had been the nominee, he would have ripped Chimpy a new one in his own style.

I'm totally for Howard now and respect him greatly, unlike Joe Trippi (who I feel made Dean lose).

We can dream. All the best for you wishing Howard was wheelin' and dealin' with the feelin' on Chimpy's squealin'.

13. Good question!
But man has Kerry proven himself to me in the last 2 weeks. I gotta admit I thought it was a mistake from Iowa on, but now I'm convniced.

Not that Dean wouldn't hav won too, and I was a Kucinich supporter!

20. Any of the major Democratic candidates, including Dean, could have won
However, first, the candidate must excite enough Democrats to win the nomination. Kerry did.

I strongly believe that Howard Dean would not appreciate your posting this right now. His ego is subordinate to his dreams for our country. Obviously, yours is not. Our attention should be on our nominees, not our runners-up. I adore Wes Clark, but I see no reason to post polls asking how people think he would have done. Its childish and counterproductive.

23. Dean "screams"
and he's having a meltdown.

Bush yells at the audience and lunges at the moderator, and the "pundits" at MSNBC call him powerful.

Under those conditions,a win for Dean would have been impossible.

33. Dean would've been better on Iraq but worse on taxes and demeanor
Dean would've been able to argue Iraq more effectively, but would've been slammed on his tax plan (complete rollback of tax cuts), his lack of national security credentials and his unpresidential demeanor.

Dean would've stood up for the base and the party much more firmly and clearly, but I fear it would've been for nought.

Kerry has the bio, the presidential demeanor, the debating ability, the military creds, the foreign policy resume, the strong populist/progressive tax plan which cuts taxes on 98% of Americans and makes rich pay fair share (as opposed to raising taxes on everyone).

Dean is the future of the party, but Kerry is the next president. Kerry is the only one of our candidates who could've beat BushCo.
