Rep. Tim Ryan (D) gave a fiery speech, slamming President Bush and his administration yesterday. It was during a vote for a bill re-instating the draft (the bill was soundly defeated). Here is a transcript of the speech by Congressman Ryan.

Rep. Tim Ryan: I thank the gentleman. I rise in opposition of this bill. But I would like to clarify something. We're not trying to scare kids. This president's foreign policy is what's scaring the kids of this country. And then people have said today, "Why are people believing this?", "Why are people believing this big internet hoax?". Well, (these are the same people who) told us Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. Same people that told us Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Same people who told us we were going to be able to use the oil for reconstruction money. The same people that told us we would be greeted as liberators not occupiers. Same people, same President that told us the Taliban is gone. Same President that told us Poland is our ally two days before they pull out. Same President that tells us Iraq is going just great. Same President that tells us the economy is going just great. Same people that told us the tax cut was going to create millions of jobs. Same people that told us the Medicare program only cost $400 billion dollars, when it really cost $540 billion. So PLEASE FORGIVE US FOR NOT BELIEVING WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! Please forgive the students of this country for not believing what you're saying. Not one thing, not one thing about this war that has been told to the American people or that's been told to these college students has been true. Not one thing. Bremer says we need more troops, the Pentagon says we need more troops and this President can't get them from the international community. There is only one option left; Let's be honest with the American people. I yeild back the balance of my time.

Rocking speech. It is about time. I hope the tide is turning against the worst President this country has ever had.

from another poster: let's freep this local OHIO station in Ryan's district who will not show his speech!!!

"Gosh, I just called Ryan's office. I live in Canton, my SO works in Akron, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't know that Akron was in Congressman Ryan's district. The very nice man, Gene, I talked to said that he has known the Congressman since Tim was six years old and they have been getting calls from all over the country. He also said that none of the local Youngstown stations would show the Congressman's remarks. We both agreed that was just more evidence of the "liberal media" in America.
I've just contacted one of the Youngstown stations I've found, I really think it needs to be shown, he's an elected official for crying out loud!

I hope you don't mind that I copied and pasted the speech and sent it to several other forums. I think everyone in America should have the chance to read/hear this heartfelt speech. Ohio should be very proud of this Congressman! I tried to call the numbers listed to give Ryan positive feedback, but it was too late and the offices were closed. Will call again tomorrow.
