Economy, Iraq War Frame Bush-Kerry Debate

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

ST. LOUIS - President Bush (news - web sites) and Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) faced questions from an audience of uncommitted voters in their second debate Friday night, with tepid jobs numbers and the war in Iraq (news - web sites) certain to be points of contention.

The 90-minute encounter came eight days after the candidates' initial faceoff, which seemed to give Democrat Kerry a boost. The Massachusetts senator had a slight lead in an Associated Press-Ipsos poll concluded on the eve of the debate.

This time the setup was different. Uncommitted voters chosen by the Gallup Organization wrote out questions in advance, and 15-20 selected questioners were to address the candidates on nationwide TV in a town hall-style format at Washington University.

9. To counter their original incident that revealed their pro-bush* bias
Notice this one is spun pro-Kerry although to a much, MUCH lesser degree.

8. The Story Has Been Changed.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 02:29 PM by jayfish
All words in the past-tense have been changed to future-tense. You know I have seen that headline all day on Excite News and never clicked through. I wish I would have caught it earlier. Hope you saves as .html of got a screen shot.

On Edit: It looks like only half the story has changed. How weird.

11. I'm still seeing past-tense
"the set-up was different"
"The debate came the day before" election in Afghanistan
"The audience... was divided evenly"
"Their participation was tightly controlled"
"The setting was familiar to Bush"

etc...

However, she didn't pick a winner.

12. Ya About Half Of It Has Been Changed.
Whats even worse is that the entire story is Bush propaganda.

" Bush advisers privately acknowledged that the president hurt himself in the first debate by grimacing and fidgeting during Kerry's answers and by failing to seize upon openings the Democrat gave him."

Just because the Thugs think Kerry gave * openings doesn't make it so.

"Kerry stepped up his rhetoric, too, after a report raised fresh questions about Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s ability to make weapons of mass destruction — the president's main rationale for war."

The report did not raise any questions, it crushed them and Iraq's ability to make weapons was not the rational for war.

This story is a POS.

13. It's Nedra fucking Pickler - she'll pick Bush
Some of the most atrocious writing from a paid "professional" I've ever seen.

If I had more time, I'd alert Atrios. He hates Pickler with a passion.

14. Someday, in the "future"
AI bots will/have contingency story structure with "past/future" modes.
No rewriting necessary, and with multiple outcomes programmed in.
One could choose outcome based on actual events or various "true histories" according to demographics. A separate TRUTH for each ideology will be/is now/has been possible!

Where do you want to go today?
What do you want to have happened yesterday?
It's a brave, brave world after all...
