Answer to the Job Number Spin - Storms Can NOT be Blamed!!
The repukes are now saying that the numbers would have been higher, but the hurricanes in FL hurt the numbers. THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!! I am in Florida and let me tell you something - Anyone in FL that didnt have a job before, has no reason not to have one now THANKS to the hurricanes. There is so much work needing done here in the way of debris removal, and general cleanup efforts, if anything the numbers were BOOSTED by the hurricanes. No one lost their jobs because of the storms and if anyone's start of emplyment was delayed from the storm, it would only have been for a couple days in most cases. The storms brought a lot of destruction to FL, but one thing they did NOT do is remove jobs or hinder new jobs from forming. I think it is time for all of us to let the media aware of this and also let them know that no amount of spin will change the fact that they missed the numbers by 32000 jobs (at least - not taking into consideration that this number will probably be revised to about 20000 lower in the coming week or so).

2. FL Jobs
Look at the state by state chart on the CNN site. FL unemployment is at 4.5%. Lower than the national average? don't think storms did a whole lot to contribute to the number. Does the 96,000 in clude public sector jobs?

3. I heard some analyst on CNN this morning....
... specifically saying that the hurricanes did NOT have an impact. I think it's reflected in hours worked in Florida and Alabama -- not a huge drop-off.

Any DU-ers who've read the report and can weigh in here? :)

5. Govt Jobs
According to the WP article, 37,000 of these were government jobs. Private sector (service and retail) "created" 57,000.

7. any small business destroyed that had to be closed
that would be a way that jobs would be lost. also if business were on the verge on closing, the hurricanes could have escalated that because you had a good months of tourist not coming the way the have in the past. so loss of revenue.

what are the numbers i havent heard

and the unemployment number is being manipulated. i cant remember how, but when it first came out so low, the dems were saying ya but.......they are doing something to manipulate it

8. GOP's favorite jobs report-the household survey, shows 585000 jobs lost
Household Jobs show disaster-labor force drops 1 million, job loss of 585K

The GOP's favorite DOL jobs number, the Household survey number, shows bigger Job disaster than shown in the anemic 96,000 jobs gain in the payroll survey jobs number. The Household Survey reports 201,000 lost jobs in September since 139,681,000 were "seasonal adjusted" employed in Aug less 139,480,000 of Seasonal adjusted folks Employed in Sept., and that is a drop of 201,000 jobs. If you prefer numbers that are not seasonally adjusted, then 140,226,000 less 139,641,000, or 585,000 jobs were lost in Sept.

And that Steady 5.4% Unemployment rate is based on folks no longer being in the labor pool and therefore not counted as unemployed. The seasonal adjusted change is from 147,704,000 looking for work or employed in August to 147,483,000 looking for work or employed in Sept, or 221,000 folks dropped out. If you like non-seasonally adjusted numbers, then 148,166,000 less 147,186,000, or a huge 980,000 folks stopped looking for work or being employed in Sept.

NEARLY ONE MILLION FOLKS STOPPED LOOKING FOR WORK OR BEING EMPLOYED IN SEPTEMBER!!!!
