They're spinnging like crazy on CNBC..................
trying to put some lipstick onthis pig. Kudlow is in SERIOUS denial, he's making stuff up just to spin the horrible numbers. He's crowing about how productivity numbers are way up! Note to Larry, all that means is that companies are working their employees to death to avoid hiring new workers. Unfreakingbelievable.

1. Good analysis.
And those same overworked employees are scared to say "no" because they might lose their jobs!

23. GOP's favorite jobs report, the Household survey, shows 585,000 jobs lost
Household Jobs show disaster-labor force drops 1 million, job loss of 585K

The GOP's favorite DOL jobs number, the Household survey number, shows bigger Job disaster than shown in the anemic 96,000 jobs gain in the payroll survey jobs number. The Household Survey reports 201,000 lost jobs in September since 139,681,000 were "seasonal adjusted" employed in Aug less 139,480,000 of Seasonal adjusted folks Employed in Sept., and that is a drop of 201,000 jobs. If you prefer numbers that are not seasonally adjusted, then 140,226,000 less 139,641,000, or 585,000 jobs were lost in Sept.

And that Steady 5.4% Unemployment rate is based on folks no longer being in the labor pool and therefore not counted as unemployed. The seasonal adjusted change is from 147,704,000 looking for work or employed in August to 147,483,000 looking for work or employed in Sept, or 221,000 folks dropped out. If you like non-seasonally adjusted numbers, then 148,166,000 less 147,186,000, or a huge 980,000 folks stopped looking for work or being employed in Sept.

NEARLY ONE MILLION FOLKS STOPPED LOOKING FOR WORK OR BEING EMPLOYED IN SEPTEMBER!!!!

2. Exactly!
people are afraid of losing their jobs right now, so companies are getting away with working salary employees like mad. I know someone who just recently quit her job in the marketing department of a fairly large, and fairly well known Pittsburgh company (no not Heinz, guess again) who had her, and pretty much everyone else there, working about 80-90 hour weeks ONGOING. She eventually quit and went to work for her parents because she couldn't handle it anymore. Most people don't have that luxury though.

14. if you have a salary (not hourly) job
& it takes you 90 hours to do your job, you might have to stay at work for no extra money-
chef jobs are notorious for this practice.

22. Possible Yes. Good For Your Health No.
I've done 80+ hours a week before for a month. I was on a business trip and I wanted to get the job done ASAP so I could get home. I was salary so there was no point prolonging it. I worked long days, weekends, holidays etc.

Here's an 80 hour week for you...

Get up at 6, shower, grab coffee, head to work. Work at 7am. Work, work, and more work. Stay at work, working, till 7pm, head home, grab dinner, try and relax from 8-9pm or so, then sleep. If you don't need much sleep, you can even go out. Rinse and repeat every day of the week. Bingo 84 hours that week. Pull a couple later nighters where you don't leave until 10pm and you're at 90 hours a week.

Not a way a person is meant to live.

25. I can top that...
When I was working as a P.A. in the Art Dept. for Paramount's "The Hours," our schedule the week before shooting was insane. Get up at 4:30/5:00, drive to Ft. Lauderdale, get in by 7:00, run around frantically getting everything set up, grab fast food on the fly, work until about 10 or 11 at night, drive back home, get to bed around 12 or 12:30, wake back up at 4:30 and start all over again.

Running on caffeine and adrenaline, but making good money. Thankfully, that was just one week. A month would have killed me.

16. Kudlow is one of those GOP talking heads that thinks if
you say something with enough conviction and force in your voice that people will believe you without question. "He is an "expert." And it works for the party faithful. Kudlow was on MSNBC last night blustering about how good the figures were going to be for BushCo.

The GOP will come out today honking like a gaggle of geese about how wonderful the job growth numbers are, their followers will memorize the party line while they sip their morning Kool Aid and then will be on TV all day long talking about what wonderful growth and how just marvelous the economy has recovered from 9/11. I just want to puke.

12. Productivity increases.
Anyone know how this is measured? I was always under the impression that this can actually increase via outsourcing as well. Hired 10 people in China for 1 person here.. your productivity per expenditure is up.

Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 08:17 AM by Dees
and a merry old soul was he.
He called for his weed and he called for his blow
I guess we all know about Larry Kudlow.

Supply side hack and unproductive human being. Makes money chasing money. Ray-gunnomics devotee.

Last night he was talking about "in sourcing" jobs". I wish blow nose would explain what that means.

96,000 new jobs is a pathetic number-1.8 million jobs over 13 months/130,000 plus jobs per month. Those tax cuts really worked. The * base are the only people benefiting from the tax cuts while the defecit stands at $440 billion.VooDoo economics

...of how successful the Army was in first month of the war.

Not just denial, but psychosis. He doesn't need an earpiece to hear voices.
