"E.R." brought the Iraq war home tonight, on NBC.

A fictional show made me even more pissed off at George W. Bush, and ever more determined to do what I can to see him voted out of office.

One of the patients in the E.R. had lost a leg, part of his face and a fiancee because of the Iraq war. They didn't beat it over the head, but the dialogue between the wounded soldier and Dr. Carter went something like this (paraphrasing here):

Soldier: "Are you a Democrat?"

Carter: "Most of the time."

Soldier: "People rag on this war. But I think it was a good thing. It gave a lot of people their freedom."

Carter: "It's good that you feel that way."

The bloodied, burned soldier replied, in a monotone: "Where the hell would I be if I didn't?"

That really got me.

1. That's DEEP. For those soldiers permanently scarred.............
both physically and mentally by this "War for profit" that's the only attitude that keeps you functional. So sad.

2. Was this a new episode?
I missed it. I usually like to watch it when I can, though I'm usually busy Thursday nights.

5. Yes, new episode.
SPOILER ALERT (hide your eyes if you haven't watched your tape yet).

Kovac asks Sam to move in with him.

Carter goes off the wagon a little bit because he's been having nightmares about his lost girlfriend and his lost baby. He looks horrible, and he cries as he talks to Kovac.

Two gay men are severely beaten while kissing in a secluded park.

Abby has a crisis of confidence as a doctor (and loses her first patient).

Abby helps a Mexican girl return to her parents after being abducted to America and abused as a prostitute.

Neela doesn't want to be a doctor anymore; her parents come from London to remind her she promised to be a doctor to help put her siblings through college.

4. The beauty of art. The beauty of the ugly truth.
The thing is, a right winger could look at that same scene and feel equally justified. It focuses, like art should, on the human dimensions of the problem, outside of who's right, who's wrong. It asks, what are humans doing. How has the world affected real people and the way they live their lives?

That's the reason I opposed the war. It was going to do more damage than waiting for the inspections process to play itself out.

8. I have noticed a couple of shows that have made little
statements and some not so little.
The new show on WB "Jack and Bobby" made a really bold statement a week ago when they held a Kerry rally and had buttons and signs through out the episode.
