I have to write a paper on the Iraq Invasion
My history teacher assigned this research paper on the Middle East today. As she was handing out topics, nobody wanted to take terrorist organizations. I said I would do it, but she told me to do the the Invasion. I guess she wants a twelve-page rant...

The first part of the paper is on whether or not the war is justified. Any suggestions on where to start? There's just too much to sort through.

1. Start by detailing all of the bogus justifications for war
Phantom WMD, phony links to Al Qaeda, etc.

2. Outrage at Saddam's past use of WMD ("he gassed his own people")
which we supported at the time - sold him the bacteria cultures, for example.

Then you can discuss whether we will allow true democracy there...

If you want to know the real reasons we went into Iraq check the PNAC and http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/RRiraqWar.html (peak oil and dollar hegemony).

4. Just paraphrase regime decrees. Saddam defied America

There were people in Iraq with the intellectual capacity to produce weapons that could impede/be an obstacle to achievement of US military goals and objectives.

In the current climate, school is not the best place for airing anti-regime opinions.

5. First decide
whether you are writing the paper to tell the truth
OR
whether you writing the paper to get an A.

It gets easier after that.

6. Since it's a History paper, be sure to consider
including US past adventures (Spanish, P.I., Vietnam, Gulf War I, etc) and how our new doctrine of "pre-emptive war" compares and contrasts. You could write a book and not have to rant at all.
