Why I don't follow 9-11 conspiracy theories. (For now.)
I don't remember the last time I posted in the 9/11 forum. But here's something y'all may be interested in:

Why I don't follow 9-11 conspiracy theories. (For now.)

If people pushing the idea that 9/11 was a stage-managed event designed to increase the power of a handful of NeoConservatives, really believed what they were saying - and I mean really believed what they were saying - it becomes morally impossible to work within the system.

Just like a cheating spouse nullifies most marriages, a government-backed 9-11 event is a breach of the social contract that nullifies the obligations citizens have to the central government.

Forget paying taxes, using the courts, spending dollars, voting or even holding a job.

I don't have the fortitude to go down that rabbit hole yet.

I'm not proud of that last sentence, but there it is.

Thoughts?

2. Thoughts
You make some good points. However, the problem is that we have not been given an explanation that makes sense for what happened on 9/11.

So for me, I can't accept the official conspiracy theory when it is so obviously false. But that doesn't mean I have to also stop living my life - and supporting the 911 truth movement.

3. Agreed on some points...

But seriously, if elements of governement were involved in the crime itself or at least, in the cover up, why should WE be changing the way WE live ?

Criminals get thrown into jails, not the other way around where the victims should stop living, and have a prisoner's life meanwhile the perps are roaming free.

My two cents :P

4. I think
Brainshrub you may well have hit the nail on the head.

When I see people on this board - probably good, decent liberals - refusing to even deabte, I can only think that their worldview is so utterly shattered that debating on a message board is in itself just futile.

Kinda like realising you're living in the Matrix and just don't see the point in normal behavior anymore.

Which I think is pretty much the point you are making.

For my part, I think the day debate ends is the day we slip on the jackboots before goose-stepping our way down to the torch-lit rally.

5. He's framing the issue in an irrational way.
The conclusion that total alienation is the only permissable response is not justified,
and that it's such a blatant rationalization for non-action makes it suspect. Some
respond by running for Congress, writing books, making movies.

The analogy of a cheating spouse is a poor one--too personal and too simple a system.

A better analogy would be if you work at a company and suspect (but can't yet prove)
that there's corruption at the top. Do you immediately quit your job and devote your
life to the destruction of capitalism? No, you bide your time, you try to find the
facts, you brush up your resume and brown-nose your references, you plan your moves.

I've seen freepers advance a similar argument.
Do you complain about military contractors? Well, if you fly in Boeing jets then you're
a hypocrite so just shut up.
Do you object to Diebold voting machines? Well if you keep an account in a bank that
uses Diebold ATMs you're a hypocrite so just shut up.
The freepers seem to find this bit of sophistry quite convincing.

The ones who are really breaking the social contract are the Democrats who refuse to hold
the Bushcists accountable. Who's worse, a mad dog or the dog catcher who refuses to protect
your children from him?

I say vote out everybody who voted for the USAPatriot Act.

6. there's a difference between
"pushing" an idea and considering it.

There will always be those who cannot even consider any idea that conflicts with their view of the world. And that is understandable. Why upset yourself when you can more easily reject?

On the other hand some people are already down the rabbit hole, never mind whether it was MIHOP or not. I mean, who wants to support or participate in a system that produced the BFEE? We have been betrayed in very obvious ways regardless. That's why it's not such a stretch to consider MIHOP. Look at how they operate. Most people want to think that they live in a "good" country, in a "good" community. But there is solid evidence that in fact, we do not. The realization of this is the first step to the massive changes that are needed.

Risking disillusionment is better than living with lies. No matter how bad it is, it is better to KNOW. Some people are more comfortable living this way than others.
