Technical computer question

I have an interesting 9/11-related video few have seen, and I want to put it on the timeline website. However, I'm having some technical difficulties, and wonder if anyone can help.

Right now the file is about 50 MB and in .avi format. It doesn't stream, so you just see blackness for a long time. Not good. I want to make it smaller and convert it to something like .wmv or .rm format. Any suggestions on how to do that, or can anyone help do it for me? It's running on a tomcat application server on apache, if that matters at all.

Try EO Video:

.wmv or .asf formats will stream I believe

Quicktime is another option; if you have the registered version of it you can read in the .avi file and export it as an .qt of .mov file.
