McDermott, a reporter for The Los Angeles Times was skeptical of the way the Sept. 11 hijackers were portrayed. So he traveled to 22 countries to research their identities, motives and life circumstances. He found that they weren't deeply disturbed. They came from intact families, most were middle-class, few were deeply religious, and none were abused or estranged. His new book is Perfect Soldiers: The Hijackers: Who They Were, Why They Did It.

Caught a part of this in the car. Very interesting and personal look into the hijackers.

If they stole IDs -- which seems pretty obvious -- then NO ONE knows who they are.

No one in the general public, like this reporter, anyway.

If between seven and nine -- in other words, almost half -- of the "hijackers" are still living, who did he interview?

3. I just watched McDermott on Book TV on C-Span and have a question

An audience member stood up and asked him about the put options on AAL and UAL, wondering whatever happened to that story. McDermott replied that "it wasn't true". How can he say that?

I don't trust this guy. He said he used to be a roofer and became a journalist. What?
