4. Another Soviet habit...
What cannot be true, is not true.

In fact, the US is in the same situation as the USSR was in in the 80's:

Afghanistan, bancrupt, and not reliable. Check.

9. Well, not all CTs need to be implausible and wacky, ya know
Anyway, I said it "makes me wonder," by which I mean I'm not sure, since I don't have any evidence. The definition of a CTist is someone who strongly believes implausible conspiracy theories despite having no good evidence.

14. Did you notice the RT host eye rolling and her incredulous tone of voice at how ridiculous Taitz is?
And the RT wrap up at the end completely rejecting Taitz's claims?

15. Birther Orly Taitz featured on American media:
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 06:23 PM by Subdivisions
MSNBC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOYVr7OKpV0

CNN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSgK8opbGcQ

She's been all over American media. Please show how this is any different than her appearance on RT. The RT interview displayed obvious incredulity for what Taitz was saying. She can be seen at 35 seconds saying "...Orly Taitz is a well-known member of the...Birther Movement..." with an obvious look of skepticism and a raising of her eyebrows. At 2:30, you can here someone in the background laughing as Taitz makes the claim re: Obama's birth certificate. At that point, the interviewer challenges Taitz explaining that Obama's eligibility has been established and she herself laughs when asking Taitz "Do you still not believe he is a U.S. citizen...". The interviewer, at 3:00, continues to challenge Taitz. The interviewer gives Taitz plenty of time to expose herself for the idiot she is and, when she was finished, the interview concludes with the interviewer looking rather doubtful and saying: "Dr. Taitz, believing Pres. Obama still not born in the United States despite him providing documents showing that he has."

If you ask me, RT did a BETTER job at exposing her for the fraud she is by simply allowing her to lay her stupid story out for the obvious batshit craziness that it is.

Now, @KDLarsen (and now jberryhill, since you've jumped in with your two cents), please provide an example of RT as being comparable to Pravda of the Cold War Era, because so far all you've done is make (or supported, as in the case of jberryhill) an erroneous and unfounded statement without the benefit of providing a sufficient example demonstrating your claim.

16. *shrug*
It's a matter of opinion, whether or not RT is conforming to Pravda standards. Given truthers' track record of accepting evidence that goes against their belief, I'm not expecting the following to change much:

Pravda on the Potomac
...
For the past four years, Russia has been building its global media and public relations presence. In 2005, the government established Russia Today, a worldwide news channel that broadcasts in English, Arabic, and Spanish. With its often virulent anti-Americanism, worshipful portrayal of Russian leaders, and comical production values, the station, which has over 90 million viewers, can be relied upon to repeat Kremlin talking points. But while the station has pretensions to be a respected news outlet, it often can't help but revive the pettiness that was a distinctive feature of Soviet-era propaganda. A video clip on the station's website, for instance, shows Saakashvili chewing on the end of his tie while on a phone call; it's captioned "The nervous Georgian President revealed an odd little habit." The station also regularly features commentary from Alex Jones, the notorious American conspiracy theorist who in August apologized to Russia Today viewers for the Georgian invasion; an attack, he said, in fact perpetrated by "a private international military industrial complex" that had "taken over" the U.S. government.

The Kremlin's quest for Pravda 2.0
...
Gazprom's sophistication aside, the Kremlin's ability to broadcast its own take on geopolitical events - particularly those involving Russia - is largely non-existent. The launch of Russia Today, a 24-hour English-language news channel, in late 2005, was supposed to bridge that gap; however, the channel is yet to pose a serious threat to CNN International or Al Jazeera. Given its propensity to air conspiracy theories on a daily basis, sometimes it feels more like a TV arm of the LaRouche movement than a serious international news outlet (it's also, perhaps, the only international news channel that actually invites LaRouch himself to air his putrid punditry to the global audience). So far, Russia Today has mostly failed to effectively advance the Kremlin's viewpoint: in times of an international crisis - like the war in South Ossetia - international audiences (at least the sane viewers amongst them) tend to disregard RT's coverage as biased - and they are usually right to do so...
...
"TV Novosti", the entity behind the aforementioned "Russia Today" TV channel, is slated to receive 230 million USD (which is twice as much as last year); lion's share of this money would go towards diversifying its international broadcasting and launching new TV channels in English, Arabic, and Spanish. In case you were wondering: TV Novosti's web-site presents it as an "autonomous nonprofit organization" - it must be one of those cases where money does buy autonomy (this is still a huge pile of money: Russia Today's start-up budget was only 30 million USD and it needed another 60 million USD in its first year of operation).

Conflict Opens Front in the Media
Russian television is flush with footage of misery left by the Georgian assault in the separatist district of South Ossetia, but few, if any, reports mention Russia’s bombing of Georgia.

William Dunbar, a correspondent in Georgia for English-language state channel Russia Today, mentioned the bombing in a report Saturday, and he has not gone on air for the station since.

“I had a series of live, video satellite links scheduled for later that day, and they were canceled by Russia Today,” he said by telephone from Tbilisi on Sunday. “The real news, the real facts of the matter, didn’t conform to what they were trying to report, and therefore, they wouldn’t let me report it.

17. Good post, and about time...
It took you 3 days to come up with that stuff.

"It's a matter of opinion, whether or not RT is conforming to Pravda standards."

Fair enough, as it is my opinion that RT doesn't come close to the level of Pravda when it comes to propaganda. And you still have not demonstrated that it does. However, it is clear that RT's reporting can be both laughable and questionable, laughable for allowing idiots like Alex Jones and LaRouche a venue to spout their idiocy, and questionable due to it's failure to honestly report the affairs of Russia. But I submit that RT is more like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox than it is like Pravda of the Cold War Era in that CNN, MSNBC, and Fox allow their fair share of idiots a venue to spout their idiocy and they fail miserably to honeslty report the affairs of the United States.

18. Did you happen t see this headline on one of the RT videos?
"Is the US government targeting its own people?"

It starts off with a very bizarre introduction to stating that Obama is continuing a Bush policy of authorizing US Troops to "capture and even kill Americans" who are associated with terrorists groups. Minus the scare-tactics intro, that might be a fair topic for discussion, but then instead of even really discussing that policy, they immediately interview Paul Craig Roberts, who starts off by saying, "Well, they may as well kill them abroad because they kill Americans at home." He then proceeds to tell highly distorted, far-right revisionist versions of what happened at Waco and Ruby Ridge.

Then they have a shocking headline about "US army is recruiting children," which actually talks about recruiters visiting high schools. I definitely don't like that program myself, but RT's implying that they are illegally "recruiting children" is a deliberate distortion.

But hey, if you don't think RT is propaganda, then check out this headline:
"Plushenko: Too good for gold or robbed at Vancouver 2010 Olympics?" :eyes:

19. Again, idiots and their idiocy...
As I said, RT doesn't hold a candle to the level of propaganda leveled by Pravda during the Cold War. But they are, however, comparable in the veracity of their content as is CNN, MSNBC, and Fox. So, if one is to dismiss RT as an unreliable source of "news", then one must also equally dismiss CNN, MSNBC, and Fox, as I have done, for the same reasons.

In answer to the question you posed, no. I have not seen the clips or headlines you cited as I don't consider RT a reliable source of information and so do not seek them out. Understand that I am not defending RT, only that it doesn't rise to the level of Pravda and is more comparable in its character to CNN, MSNBC, and Fox.

20. International News Not National
The only place where people can challenge the official account of 9/11 without being on the attack for their sanity the whole time is overseas.

The few times they have let people talk about 9/11 alternative accounts in the USA, they introduce the person with ad hominem attacks, call them anti-semtiic, anti-american, disrespectful to victims, etc.

So basically instead of having a chance to make their case, half of the interview is used to present that person as insane in the membrane
