Why are 9/11 records still classified?

We are told the CIA had to use torture to get crucial information. Thus it would be unjust to hold any officials accountable for employing torture. We are told the FBI needs the Patriot Act to prevent terrorist attacks. Any abuses of PA powers are not a big deal and should be tolerated because focusing on the abuses isn't fair. The NSA needs warrantless surveillance power to prevent terrorist attacks. It is unfair to blame telecoms, politicians or NSA officials because after all they were simply trying to prevent terrorist attacks.

Congress continues to renew this counterterrorism legislation. The Obama administration uses the states secrets privilege to quash lawsuits. We don't have honest policy debates in this country. The political/media establishment doesn't believe the public has a right to know. Some people find this conduct acceptable. Pretty sad.
