2. Ack! The Bay of Pigs!

Series! This one is hugh!

"Wah! Northwoods never happened!"

Yeah. Because of the Bay of Pigs. JFK wouldn't touch Northwoods after the Bay of Pigs clusterfuck;

Beginning at 1:40 A.M., shortly before Zuniga's take-off, eight other CIA B-26s had roared into the night from the same airstrip, their engines straining with the weight of extra fuel and the ten 260- pound bombs they each carried. Their pilots were Cuban exiles, trained and employed by the CIA. Their target was Cuba, and their mission -- to smash Castro's air force before it could get off the ground.

These planes, too, bore a replica of the FAR insignia of Castro's air force. Flying in three formations, under the code names of "Linda," "Puma" and "Gorilla," the eight B-26s were to strike at dawn in a surprise raid. It was to be the first of two strikes at Castro's air bases, to pave the way for the secret invasion of Cuba scheduled to take place forty-eight hours later at the Bahia de Cochinos, the Bay of Pigs. The operation had the approval of the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President of the United States.

Zuniga was to land in Miami shortly after the bombing raid. He was to announce to the world that the attack had been carried out from bases inside Cuba by himself and other pilots who had defected from Castro's air force. In reality, of course, all nine planes had left from Happy Valley, the CIA code name for the air base at Puerto Cabezas. The Nicaraguan Government had secretly agreed to let the United States use the air base and port as a staging area for the invasion.

As he flew northward through the night to Miami, Zuniga had time to go over the prepared story once more in his mind. He had been especially selected by the CIA's American instructors from among the Cuban exile pilots. A CIA agent known simply as "George" had asked for volunteers for a special mission. Three men offered to go. The CIA fired questions at them to test their reactions under stress. Mario was then selected for his intelligence and quick thinking. There followed endless rehearsals of the cover story that Zuniga came to know almost in his sleep. He was instructed not to reveal the truth about his mission, even years afterward. - The Invisible Government, David Wise and Thomas B. Ross, p.9-10

Understanding that this is a game and we each have our own ideas, three I would include in any "top 10" list:

1) The Moscow 1999 apartment bombings = fully confirmable false flag attack orchestrated by the FSB (former KGB) to replace Yeltsin with Putin and initiate a second attack on Chechnya. This example is fascinating and highly relevant because of its proximity to 9/11, the almost fully parallel structure. One imagines it served as a demonstration to the 9/11 conspirators of how easy it is to get away with, if only you are the sherriff. Also, the truth came out and yet it didn't change a thing.

I think the Russian example is a very important one in helping to unleash Americans' inhibitions. They have no trouble believing that this stuff is possible in Russia! Also, it shows what kind of justifications Machiavellian actors might come up with for taking such actions.

2) Gladio. I can't think of a more paradigmatic series of incidents for illustrating the "strategy of tension." In fact, the term was coined for it. Lemnitzer of Northwoods went to Europe to head NATO and next thing you know, the stay-behind CIA-built militias of Italy and other countries.

3) The Kuwaiti incubator babies lie. This is within current memory. It's a fantastic example because it's so cartoonish: here is the Kuwaiti ambassador's daughter, looking 16 and speaking fine English, pretending she's a nurse and telling an absurd baby-slaughter story, and not one member of the independent US press figures this out. The whole of the US media swallows the whole thing. It proves that yes, things ARE that bad. When called upon to present crisis propaganda in the run-up to a war, the US corporate media is no better than a Soviet-style transmission belt for anything the government says.

And here are three objections (and please if anyone disagrees - reply in the spirit of debate. Don't point this down for not conforming with your ideas):

1) Pearl Harbor is not accurately described as a false flag. It was an act of war by the sovereign, fascist state of Japan, which had already launched wars of aggression and invaded Manchuria, China, Indochina and other nations, committing large-scale atrocities, and which had a deal with Nazi Germany, the worst state ever, to split Eurasia and "rule the world." All this is true, regardless of the degree of foreknowledge by the US government that an attack was coming. Furthermore, I ask you: If you knew the Japanese fleet was coming, what would you have done in FDR's place?

2) No one really knows what sunk the Maine. The idea that it was the Spanish is absurd. However, the incident was exploited to make war in the way of a false-flag attack. I am inclined nevertheless to believe the Navy version released 75 years later (engine explosion, such as was common at the time). This is a case where another pretext would have been found to achieve the then-imperialist goal of relieving Spain of her empire. The idea of this war was very popular, "low-cost" and needed very little in the way of brainwashing. (It was the Philipinos and Cubans in the end who paid the price.)

3) Please don't pretend anyone knows for sure what happened in the year 64 (Crubaugh doesn't, so I don't know why this is on his list as a false flag).a Some people may retroactively identify with the cult of the Christ. Others may sympathize with the pagans (who would ultimately fall victim to Christian fanaticism and in the centuries that followed be massacred, forced into conversion, and forced to watch the temples and the libraries of a whole civilization burn down). No one can know this today. Perhaps you should keep this, but as a question: It becomes an essential example because it is a warning. It shows us what might happen when the history of the present day is written, if we do not succeed in getting the truth of September 11th out NOW.
