So who is Benjamin Chertoff ?
Debunking Popular Mechanics' 9/11 Lies

http://www.lookingglassnews.org/viewstory.php?storyid=6880

Nepotism, bias, shoddy research and agenda-driven politics

Popular Mechanics has re-entered the media circus in an attempt to continue its 9/11 debunking campaign that began in March of last year. A new book claims to expose the myths of the 9/11 truth movement, yet it is Popular Mechanics who have been exposed as promulgating falsehoods while engaging in nepotism, shoddy research and agenda-driven politics.

It comes as no surprise that Popular Mechanics is owned by Hearst Corporation. As fictionalized in Orson Welles' acclaimed film Citizen Kane, William Randolph Hearst wrote the book on cronyism and yellow journalism and Popular Mechanics hasn't bucked that tradition.

The magazine is a cheerleader for the sophistication of advanced weaponry and new technology used by police in areas such as crowd control and 'anti-terror' operation. A hefty chunk of its advertising revenue relies on the military and defense contractors. Since the invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq and in the future Iran all cite 9/11 as a pretext, what motivation does the magazine have to conduct a balanced investigation and risk upsetting its most coveted clientele?

Popular Mechanics' March 2005 front cover story was entitled 'Debunking 9/11 Lies' and has since become the bellwether reference point for all proponents of the official 9/11 fairytale.

Following the publication of the article and its exaltation by the mainstream media as the final nail in the coffin for 9/11 conspiracy theories, it was revealed that senior researcher on the piece Benjamin Chertoff is the cousin of Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

This means that Benjamin Chertoff was hired to write an article that would receive nationwide attention, about the veracity of the government's explanation of an event that led directly to the creation of Homeland Security, a body that his own cousin now heads.

This is unparalleled nepotism and completely dissolves the credibility of the article before one has even turned the first page.

1. "These rat bastard Nazis are everywhere"
Those my first thoughts too, when I first read this article back in 2005.

Someone connected is always there to provide a cover.

3. Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, they aren't cousins. Old CT meme.
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 07:34 AM by Jazz2006
But now - long after the old meme has been disabused (facts and evidence can be darned inconvenient, can't they?) - is this a new meme you want people to read? At "looking glass news" no less?

I can't be bothered, sorry.

You might be able to convince a few CTers though, so I'll kick your thread in the spirit of kindness.

Oh, and you might want to read the newly published PM book that trashes a whole bunch of the conspiracy theories that CTers rely upon while you're here.

Who is Benjamin Chertoff?

Speaking of disinformation. For the umpteenth time, Michael Chertoff and Benjamin Chertoff are not known to be related. The only basis to make this claim is an interview in that scholarly source, the neo-Nazi propaganda rag the American Free Press. The editors at Popular Mechanics are obviously annoyed by this, because they mention it in the book, from page 102:

Soon after the Popular Mechanics report appeared, conspiracy buffs began parsing the names of the various researchers who contributed to the article, noting the odd coincidence that Benjamin Chertoff, then head of the magazine's research department, has the same last name as the then newly appointed head of the Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff. In a rare instance of reportorial initiative (most 9/11 "Internet researchers" rarely venture beyond Google), Christopher Bollyn phoned Ben's mother, who volunteered that, yes, she thinks Michael Chertoff might be a distant cousin, "Chertoff's Cousin Penned Popular Mechanics 9/11 Hit Piece," read the headline on Bollyn's next American Free Press story. "This is exactly the kind of 'journalism' one would expect to find in a dictatorship like that of Saddam Hussein's Iraq," he concluded. Later a headline was added to his article: "Ben Chertoff: Propagandists & Illuminati Disinformation Tool."

As often happens in the world of conspiracy theories, a grain of truth- it's possible that Ben and Michael Chertoff are distantly related- was built into a towering dune. In fact, Ben and Michael Chertoff have never spoken. And no one at Popular Mechanics had any contact with Michael Chertoff's office while preparing the article.

We never actually thought to doubt this claim, simply believing it irrelevant. The piece needs to be judged on its contents, not the surname of one of those involved. But then we heard a suggestion that Benjamin Chertoff denied the story altogether, so decided to email him to hear what he had to say. Was he really related to Michael Chertoff? And if he wasn't, then how could he explain the quote from his mother?

This is what he had to say: http://911myths.com/html/benjamin_chertoff.html

7. Only one Michael there
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 08:56 AM by Generarth
Parents:
Father: Chertoff, Paul
Mother: Barish, Esther
Family:
Children:
Chertoff, Michael

Two Bens but one's dead it seems, which leaves;

Father: Chertoff, Morrey Erwin
Mother: Silberstein, Beulah
Children:
Chertoff, Ben

If that is them, and USSearch doesn't come up with many Chertoffs so the likelihood is reasonable, they would indeed seem to be cousins.
