On August 16, from Caracas, Venezuela, 9/11 cyber-journalist and New York Times bestselling author Michael C. Ruppert posted a farewell statement on his From The Wilderness website detailing why a month earlier he permanently left the United States.

He began recounting his American Iliad leading up to his departure with the lyric from Don Henley's song, My Thanksgiving: "Sometimes you get your best light from a burning bridge." In burning his bridges to a native land he sees crumbling in the dust of fascism, Michael Ruppert claims, "The world is now my country."

2. I don't know what to say about these things.

I understand the feeling, the desire, to hop out of this country but I seriously don't condone it. This is our country, our flag, and we either have to take it back or go down with the burning ship. That is our moral obligation as patriots we share. I can't back anyone who leaves America in its time of crisis. From the time of the revolutionary war its been people like us, holding our ground, who have made this country great, and its the only thing that's going to save us now. A nuclear superpower with the most powerful military in the world left in the hands of idiots (because all the smart people left) is just NOT an option, AT ALL.

3. His life is in danger here. And these idiots in the gov't - will eventuall

put everyone here life in danger because we have the nerve to even talk about getting out country back. I do believe the USA that I grew up with is dead. Greg Palast in his new book quotes * as telling the Iraqis that fighting for a dying gov't isn't worth their lives. It would probably help if there was a party in this country interested in fighting for Democracy. As of today, there is no such party. Those who leave take their tax money with them. They get to live another day so when the big collapse does come, there is someone who can help put it back together again.
