"Sept. 11 conspiracy theories live on? This story ran in my local paper this morning and it appears to be an attempt to discredit all 911 theorist. What struck me was Justin Pope's title "AP Education Writer". Is this another example of a propaganda piece paid for by our government? Should Pope's real title be "Minister of Education". Does anyone know this writer or know of his previous work?

I looked up his previous work and he appears legit, but I wonder who decides what stories these reporters work on? Are they given assignments or are they allowed to pick their own stories?

force fed a steady diet of anti-Americanism bias by liberal professors. Check out the title "Confronting Brainwashing at the Ivory Tower". Hmmmm, just another education piece or an attempt to discredit liberal professors? Propaganda or opinion? This guy warrants further scrutiny.

3. You're quoting the conservative Shapiro from an article, not Pope.

It looks like that's the only article by Pope ever published by the obviously right-wing frontpagemag.
Here's another article by Pope linked from a purely Democratic site:

4. Just one, how about this one -
"Comprehensive look at higher ed planned for near future". This is an example of what I call "planting the seed":

"The announcement comes amid growing concerns that the relative independence of American colleges and universities - though a strength in many respects - can also be a disadvantage in competing with other countries."

A growing concern about our independent system of higher education? Since when? What he's talking about is having our government decide what our universities teach. Hell, Bush would probably cut out science. Sure he quotes others, but he's trying to rationalize information control. I'll admit it subtle, but that's how propaganda works. It's the slow process of changing the prevailing thinking w/o letting anyone know what you are attempting to do. If our government is using plants to persuade the public, they can't be blatant shrills. They must be used only sparingly and for a specific and timely purpose - a purpose such as discrediting liberal professors and independent thinking.

5. Here's a curious and positive Pope story: "Teach For America".
It's about an organization that recruits teachers for inner city schools. Like the Peace Corps, you commit to a two-year stint. Sounds like a worthwhile program, but I wonder who started it, what do they teach, where did it's financial backing come from (Mobile), and how is Laura Bush involved.
