‘Sharon tried to discuss Iran military options with Bush’
JERUSALEM, APRIL 11: Israeli defence officials asked Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to raise a military option against Iran's nuclear programme with US President George Bush in talks in Texas on Monday, Israel's Army Radio said.

The radio said US defense officials had so far refused Israeli entreaties to discuss attacking Iranian nuclear facilities as a last resort should diplomatic pressure fail.

Israeli and US officials were not immediately available for comment. Sharon planned to raise Iran's atomic development drive with Bush but it was unclear whether he would suggest a possible military strike. The talks were to be devoted mainly to Israel's planned Gaza pullout and other peace issues with Palestinians.

2. "Strikes" will not stop...
the Iranian Nuclear program. It is too dispersed and too protected for strikes to be effective. An invasion will do the job though...

3. By who? Our overextended troops or the Israeli army, which
pretty much shuts that country down when their troops are called up.

4. Israeli army would have to cross over Saudi Arabia to get to Iran
....and the Israeli air force alone would never be able to complete the job. There is one other possibility though.

Sharon could use Israel's nuclear weapons against Iraq with a first strike decisive blow against all targets. This meeting with George Bush at the Crawford ranch may have been precisely for discussions of that alternative and delivery by the United States for an arsenal of nuclear weapons sufficient to accomplish the blow needed to take out the Iran threat and deter other Arab countries from interfering and threatening Israel. Scary thought, but why else would the president insist on having this private meeting with Sharon away from Washington DC which is all ears and eyes?

5. Or they could go through Jordan or Syria and Iraq. The nuke
option is too scary to think about. I think Israel has the nukes without having to use any of ours. Most likely the meeting was about *'s plan to bomb Iran in June.

6. What makes so many appenders so quick to think Israel will
pull the nuclear trigger?

Try Henry Kissinger's PhD Dissertation published as a book, "Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Policy".

Nuclear weapons are a doomsday weapon. Using them is a murder-suicide pact. That was pretty much understood by every "launch crew" (nuclear subs, ICBM silos, B52's) of my generation.

7. For future reference...
when we are up to our eyeballs in yet another proxy war:

Israel says Iran close to having a nuclear bomb

Israel warns on Iranian "nightmare"

http://www.theinsider.org/mailing/article.asp?id=0614">Israel instructs America to attack Iran and Syria

ISRAEL DEMANDS IRAN BE ATTACKED NEXT AFTER IRAQ

Sharon Says US Should Also Disarm Iran, Libya and Syria

But criticize these "policies" and you are called anti-"you-know-what". A new paradigm has been born in that unless we are willing to expend our children like water, you face being ostracized. I'll save my kids and withstand the name calling thank-you-very-much.
