Jerusalem fears violence after Friday prayers
ABC News (Aus)

Friday, April 8, 2005. 6:26pm (AEST)

More than 3,000 Israeli police have been deployed in Jerusalem's Old City in response to fears that violence may break out after today's main Muslim prayers.

Israel's main security service is also warning that Jewish extremists could be planning to attack Muslim holy sites in the Old City.

The Shin Bet security service fears Jewish extremists may try to blow up one of the mosques in the compound, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.

One right-wing group wants to rally thousands of Jews on the site this weekend.
