Ha'Aretz - Abdullah: Syria, Hezbollah promote terror against Israel
Abdullah: Syria, Hezbollah promote terror against Israel
By Nathan Guttman

WASHINGTON - Jordan's King Abdullah warned Tuesday that Syria and Hezbollah are encouraging Palestinian activists to carry out terror attacks against Israel, trying to divert attention from the situation in Lebanon and Syria.
In a meeting with representatives of leading Jewish organizations, Abdullah also said Iran, Syria and Hezbollah are the greatest threats to stability in the Middle East.

Abdullah said he recently told Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that in case of a terrorist attack Sharon should check carefully who is behind it to avoid an Israeli retaliation against the wrong target. Abdullah was implying that, should a terror attack occur, Sharon would find that Hezbollah was responsible.

Sources who attended the session said they were surprised by the vehemence of Abdullah's remarks about Syria. They noted that he opened the meeting with his concerns about efforts by Syria and Hezbollah to undermine the peace process with terror attacks against Israel.

1. What's the colonial history between Jordan and Syria?...
Is there bad blood between them?

Actually, this isn't such a bad move. He gives Israel a way to not hit Palestinians, provoking Hizb'Allah, while giving them another target statedly bent on Israel's destruction.

Of course, Hizb'Allah today is mostly run by money-making moderates who only allow a couple of attacks on Israel a month to satisfy the 10% hardliners. Hizb'Allah isn't an enemy anyone would want- the beat the United States and Israel in Lebanon, two of the best military/intelligence nations on the planet. I could almost see Israel ignoring Hizb'Allah actions against Israel (as they have been doing) to prevent an all out war.

-- and Sykes-Picot Agreement and League of Nations carving up the spoils of war --

Syria and Lebanon were "administered" by France

Jordan was "administered" by UK

As to "Of course, Hizb'Allah today is mostly run by money-making moderates who only allow a couple of attacks on Israel a month to satisfy the 10% hardliners" --- that's almost like saying Dr. Bill Frist (who claims to be a Harvard Med School graduate) does charity clinic work and that Dr. Baruch Goldstein (he was a Yeshiva Univ Med School graduate) worked in a public health clinic serving a medically underserved area in the South Bronx -- and that atones for their crimes and sins.

3. I don't mean it makes up for what they do.
I'm just saying that, considering the ability of Hizb'Allah to effectively fight Western style armies, and the limited activities they do today, it might be wise to avoid bringing them into a wider conflict. That, I think, is why Israel doesn't invade Lebanon again, although I think they have a just cause for complaint.
