Has The Israeli Left Become A Tool Of The Right?
Sharon's unilateral policies have also been encouraged by Barak's declaration concerning the lack of a Palestinian partner. The "Israeli left" which is metaphorically called "left," is the left that built the settlements of Gaza and is the force that conducted demolition as a military theory. The "Zionist left" has demonstrated against the killing of soldiers amidst criminal operations perpetrated against the Palestinians. It did not take to the streets in order to oppose the demolition of homes which was endorsed by the Israeli Supreme Court, the fortress of Israeli liberalism. Leftists are demonstrating against their prime minister in fact they support him because he is seen as a man of peace in the eyes of George Bush and they do not dare to call for a resumption of negotiations. The slogan they carried in the demonstration, "getting out of Gaza and returning to negotiations," is only an indication of confusion, for Sharon is not withdrawing from Gaza in order to negotiate but in order to avoid negotiation

Leftist Israelis are calling upon the Palestinians to get rid of Yasser Arafat, these same forces used to defend him as the Oslo partner.
Yet, everything can be justified in what is termed pragmatism and moderateness, while in fact it is stupidity. They do not demonstrate in order to present themselves as a political alternative to Sharon and to oppose the crimes perpetrated in Gaza, which perhaps they do not consider to be crimes. It is for this reason that Shimon Peres described it as the demonstration of the majority of Israelis and not just the "left." It actually is a demonstration of a left that does not dare to face the majority and so it chooses to adopt the majority's position, primarily the disengagement plan even if this takes the form of assassinations and demolishing homes. The only unforgivable thing is the death of Israeli soldiers which turns the mourning from being private into becoming public. In the Gaza issue, the Zionist left has turned itself to Sharon's assistant and perhaps it would become his right hand in the same government.....
