Soldier, 4 Palestinians hurt in Jordan Valley suicide attack
A suicide bomber struck at the Bekaot roadblock in the northern Jordan Valley on Saturday afternoon, injuring one Israel Defense Forces soldier and four Palestinian bystanders.

A Palestinian man suffered serious wounds and was evacuated by helicopter to Haemek Hospital, Afula.

The soldier suffered light wounds and was evacuated by ambulance to the hospital in Afula. Three Palestinians suffered light wounds and were taken to a West Bank hospital.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the bombing in a call to The Associated Press, calling it a response to the Rafah incursion. The group said the bomber was a 19-year-old man from Nablus.

The bomber reportedly approached the checkpoint from the east. The soldiers noticed he was behaving in an odd manner and ordered him to stop. When he failed to do so, they fired warning shots in the air. The man then set off the explosive belt some 30 meters from the checkpoint, near a group of Palestinians, Israel Radio reported.

1. I always wonder what "behaving in an odd manner" means?
My best guess is something like "not waiting in line patiently".

"The bomber reportedly approached the checkpoint from the east. The soldiers noticed he was behaving in an odd manner and ordered him to stop."

Blowing himself up came after that. "behaving in an odd manner" made
the soldiers suspicious.

13. I think
that they have a pretty good idea what a person (Palestinian)wearing a heavy coat in the summer and acting nervously, means. True, they might check out more suspects than necessary, but being wary is the operational prerequisite. It can save lives, and even one's own.

15. True, that makes sense.

But that is more like "looking suspicious". I tend to
be too picky about these things, I suppose.

Edit: I am finally reading "Humboldt's Gift", it's quite
good. It's been a long time since I read Bellow.

2. It was an attack on the IDF
not civilians. War sucks.

3. "War sucks", huh ??
I wonder if the innocent Palestinians that were injured are happy that the IDF was the target.

Perhaps you could explain why the mean IDF transported the injured Palestinian by air to an Israeli hospital in Afula.

I could only imagine your outcry if I said "war sucks" over the accident in Rafah....or would you mind if I use that ??

7. The "accident"?
How can you "accidentally" fire into a crowd?

Your concern for innocent Palestinians killed in Palestinian military strikes is commendable. Why not express the same concern when innocent Palestinians are killed or wounded in ISRAELI military strikes?

12. Hey, don. Going to answer the question?
Why don't you express the same concern when innocent Palestinians are killed or wounded in Israeli military strikes?

. Get out of the West Bank and Gaza, and this won't happen. IF IDF weren't there, they wouldn't have had to take anyone to the hospital.

14. No it wasn't
The bomber didn't reach his target, obviously, he didn't even succeed in killing himself. Getting through a checkpoint may have been nearly impossible, but the target was Israelis first, military or civilian. The Palestinian civilians were incidental, and obviously the bomber lost all self control and all that was left was to blow himself up prematurely.

The fence prevents entrance into Israel except at checkpoints. This bombers would have gladly gone through the olive groves, over dunims of farmland to reach an Israeli population center.

The military is there to protect civilians, as is the fence. This is proof that they are both doing their jobs.
