"Likud sources have told Maariv Online that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is leaning towards formulating a limited settlement removal plan following his defeat in the Likud referendum yesterday (Sunday).
According to the plan, Sharon will initially remove only isolated settlements in Samaria, such as Ganim and Kadim, where most residents are interested in leaving. Two or three "problematic" Gaza Strip settlements, such as Netzarim, could also be evacuated under the proposed scheme. It is estimated that Sharon will be able to pass this type of watered-down plan even with the current makeup of the government."

"In addition, a limited evacuation could hamper relations with the United States since Sharon has vowed to President Bush he would evacuate all Gaza settlements in addition to four on the West Bank. Since poll results were made public, Sharon began receiving concerned messages from administration officials who urged him to try and push his plan forward despite the defeat. Political sources stress that the prime minister will not want to harm his relationship with Bush, thereby further limiting a possibility of carrying out such an evacuation."
