U.S. slams PA trial of suspects in U.S. convoy bombing
By Reuters

The U.S. on Tuesday criticized a Palestinian trial for the suspected killers of three Americans, Israel Radio reported.

A State Department spokesman said that the proceedings at the trial did not live up to international standards demanded by the U.S.

U.S. ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer also criticized the proceedings, saying on Monday that they should not be held behind closed doors and the charges should be tougher.

Kurtzer also said Washington should have been told in advance of the Gaza trial that began last Saturday of the four accused of involvement in a roadside bomb attack that killed the U.S. security guards in October.

A top Palestinian official accused the United States of blackmail over the investigation last week. Since the attack, the United States has stopped its officials from going to the Gaza Strip, a move that has hampered aid work.

3. more on the story - Palestinian factions decry trial

The Popular Resistance Committees, a coalition of various Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip, on Monday called on the Palestinian Authority to release four of its members who are accused of involvement in the attack on a US diplomatic vehicle in which three Americans were killed.

The group also urged the PA to cancel the trial of the four, which began in Gaza City on Saturday. Naim Abu Ful, Muhammad Asaliyeh, Ahmed Safi, and Bashir Abu Laban were formally charged in a PA military tribunal of planting explosive devices that were used against the US convoy last October.

In a statement issued in Gaza City, the group – which consists of Fatah, Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine – denied that the four were linked to the roadside bombing, saying the arrests are a "severe blow to our resistance fighters."

A spokesman for the Fab four listed above also stated that "If the suicide bomber belts don't fit, you must acquit"

Now would these four groups lie?
