Palestinians rally for Sheikh Yasin
Aljazeera.Net

Some 2500 sympathisers of the Islamic group Hamas have taken to the streets of the northern West Bank city of Nablus in support of its spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmad Yasin, whom Israel has threatened to kill.

The crowd departed from Nablus' Old City al-Nasir Mosque on Friday and marched towards the centre of town.

The marchers waived Hamas' trademark green flag and chanted "We will sacrifice our soul and our blood for you Sheikh Yasin!" and "For every threat to Sheikh Yasin, Israel will pay a high price."

Why waste an opportunity to miss another opportunity.

2. Sheikh Yasin, may peace be upon him, has reasonable demands:
"Yasin, who founded Hamas in 1987, has refused a truce with
Israel unless the Jewish state stops its policy of assassinating
leaders of armed fighters and its deadly invasions of the Palestinian territories."
Sounds like an excellent position from which to begin a serious
dialog - where there is both give and take, not just all 'take'
on the part of Israel. What do you suggest?

3. Sheikh Yasin, your man of peace
Hamas has never been willing to accept any compromise with Israel — in article 11 in their charter they declare that no party has the right to give up any Palestinian land. Article 13 measures jihad as the only solution to fight Israel, while other measures like international conferences are "a waste of time and a kind of child's play".
The jihad of Hamas has involved actions against moderate Palestinians (especially members of PLO), in addition to attacks on Israelis.
In the charter of Hamas strong sentiments against the Western world and Jews are clearly expressed. Quotations from the Holy Koran are frequently used. Hamas is both a social and a militant group. Hamas is involved in welfare schemes and education of Palestinians, in vocational training, health care and also with providing jobs to unemployed.

It may be more apt to call him a "man of body pieces"

Thousands of Palestinians rally for Hamas spiritual leader

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040123/wl_mideast_afp/mideast_palestinians_040123131615

- Some 2,500 sympathizers of the hardline Islamic group Hamas took to the street of this northern West Bank city in support of its spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, whom Israel has threatened to kill.

The crowd departed from Nablus' Old City Al-Nasser Mosque and marched toward the center of town.

The marchers waived Hamas' trademark green flag and chanted "We will sacrifice our soul and our blood for you Sheikh Yassin!" and "For every threat to Sheikh Yassin, Israel will pay a high price."

Israel believes Yassin, who escaped an attempt on his life last year, personally ordered a deadly suicide bombing at a border crossing with Gaza last week which prompted Deputy Defense Minister Zeev Boim to mark him for death.

On Monday, Israeli army chief General Moshe Yaalon also said Yassin was a target for assassination.

"For us, Sheikh Yassin is a target for liquidation, given that there is no distinction to be made between the political and military leadership of Hamas," he said

7. 2500 is a small crowd
Not exactly the huge hundred-thousand Israeli settler crowd that showed up to tell Ariel Sharon they won't leave the territory they're living on illegally.
