New bus system unveiled to stop suicide bombers
A system intended to protect buses from suicide bombers will be installed in the coming three weeks on a number of buses to check the applicability of the system. Within a number of months, the system will be installed on many buses across the country.

The new system, which was developed by Israeli Military Industries and the Transportation Ministry, allows the driver to block anyone he deems suspicious from entering the bus by hitting a red button which closes a turnstile. Electronic gates will be installed at rear entrances, which have been used by bombers to sneak on without the driver knowing. A sheet of armor is also mounted on the front of the bus below the window to block shrapnel if a bomber detonates right outside.

Stopping the bombers. Increased security, no doubt paid for with the price of a ticket. Bus fare increases on the way.

3. The electronic explosives detectors sound like a good idea....
but I'm worried about what a driver might consider to be somebody looking suspicious. I'm worried that many Arab Israelis will be suspected now.

4. Now?
Thanks to the terrorist members of Palestinian society, anybody carrying a bag or wearing a coat is a suspect.

5. I know!!!!

The "BACK OF THE BUS" could be seperated from the "FRONT OF THE BUS" by some bomb-proof material. All Arabs and Palestinians and any other evil doers can be sent through the rear doors, all good G-D fearing people will be sent to the front.

Any prospective bus riders that look even the least little bit suspicious can be sent to the "BACK OF THE BUS".

<The above was sarcasm>

Isn't this a case of treating the symptom instead of the disease? The disease being the occupation, the symptom being suicide bombings...

Or do I have it backwards? Are the suicide bombings the disease and the occupation is the symptom?

Ahhhh.... What the hell do I know, gotta go to work so I can pay my taxes... Gotta pay my taxes so "my" government can send the money to my Israeli allies....

And the beat goes on, and the beat goes on...

Don't worry your head about a fare increase, I'm sure I can work a little harder so my tax dollars will cover it... :loveya:

6. From what I've read, ...
The suicide bombers believe that by killing themselves to kill others, they will go straight to Paradise and be richly rewarded there. They *are* the "g-d fearing people.

7. The "disease"
In the eyes of many terrorists, Israel is the "disease." Until the Palestinians accept the existence of Israel and agree to peace, preventive measures such as this one are necessary to prevent massive death.

11. Which came first? The chicken or the egg???
The occupation or the terrorist?

Or does (to borrow an old expression) terrorism exist in a vacuum?

12. Devastating questions.
Considering that Israel is quite capable of making
peace with its enemies (see Jordan and Egypt) and
exchanging land for peace (see egypt) and
considering the PLO has a loooooong history of
terrorism (see Black September), you figure it out.

10. They don't need to keep everyone out
It is a pretty small subset of humanity that blows themselves up while trying to kill innocents. Israel needs to keep THEM out.

14. I traveled a lot in Palestine
but I never used egged.

Too late, too little. Certainly not confidence inspiring.

About as much as our airport security.

15. the Arab bus lines
The Arabs have their own bus company in Israel. While Israeli Jews don't ride them (I did once by mistake) Arabs frequently ride the main Israeli bus companies Egged and Dan.

No. There's no segregation, but the drivers have all gone through extensive training courses on searching for suspicious objects (unattended packages) and have often been instrumental in preventing bombers from getting on the bus, usually because they raising suspicion in their behavior or dress (like wearing a large coat on a hot day). This take s the guess work out, by using metal detectors, however that evidently comes at a later date.
