Israel Waits on Doing More Withdrawals (+wall info within)
Note: I don't know what is up with the AP, but the section about Ari'el is the big story, not the rest of it.

Israel Waits on Doing More Withdrawals
ABC News (via AP), August 4 2003

Israel's defense minister on Monday rejected any further troop withdrawals from West Bank towns until the Palestinians act against militants after an ambush that wounded four Israelis.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials said the government was considering changes in the route of a planned security barrier in the West Bank to accommodate U.S. and Palestinian concerns. The changes could leave a large settlement on the Palestinian side of the fence.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz's comments heighten pressure on Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, who has refused to take action to disarm and disband militant groups. Abbas says he fears a crackdown could spark a civil war and instead is pushing for a cease-fire in place for several weeks to become permanent.

...

As originally planned, the fence would veer deep into Palestinian areas to encompass some large Jewish settlements in the middle of the West Bank. Palestinians fiercely oppose the plan and consider it an attempt to permanently take control of their land.

The Israeli officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said planners are considering leaving a large Jewish settlement called Ariel and others "outside" the fence, building the barrier instead closer to the line dividing the West Bank from Israel.

Comment: I dunno why this story is buried, it is front page news in Israel (big blue text: "Ari'el outside fence"):

To illustrate what a big change this is if Ari'el is indeed left out:

It would cause some kind of backwash into the testes. Something to do with drainage and plumbing. At least that is what I have heard, ad nauseum.

with all his wealth and privilege he wasn't fond of women prying either. But for that poetic justice, he might have had the chance to sire some heirs to spin the story more in his favor, but...alas some of those with the balls yet have much to learn...
